NBA Sports Betting Hornets vs Trailblazers

January 2, 2009

The Hornets and Blazers figure to play a very good game tonight in Portland. I know this because the BetOnline online sportsbook odds makers haven’t released online betting odds for the game yet. That means that someone is seriously considering every single factor involved in tonight’s match-up. For sports betting fans, the challenge will be figuring out exactly which team is going to step up in tonight’s game. The Hornets are 19 and 9 straight-up but only 11-15-2 against the BetOnline online betting spread. In their last game they actually did very well because Chris Paul wasn’t the only player to score. Tyson Chandler finally pulled off a double-double and Paul pulled off a triple double. The return of Peja Stojakovic means that the Hornets are dangerous once again.

The Portland Trailblazers are 20 and 12 straight-up and 15 and 16 against the BetOnline online wagering spread. At home the Blazers are 9 and 5 against the spread. Brandon Roy is questionable for tonight’s game which is one the reasons an online wagering spread hasn’t been established. If Roy plays, then the Blazers should be very tough at home. Without Roy, they might still be tough with LeMarcus Aldridge and Greg Oden stepping it up recently.

Here are my personal online betting odds in this game.

New Orleans Hornets + 3 ½ – 110 O 189 ½ – 110

Portland Trailblazers – 3 ½ – 110 U 189 ½ – 110

Here are a few online wagering trends that might help us find a good online bet in this game.

The New Orleans Hornets are 1-4-1 against the spread in their last 6 games on the road.

The New Orleans Hornets are 1 and 5 against the spread in their last 6 games overall.

The Portland Trailblazers are 4 and 1 against the spread in their last 5 games at home.

The Portland Trailblazers are 4 and 9 against the spread in their last 13 games overall.

I’m going to assume that Brandon Roy is playing. If basketball betting fans make that assumption, then the Portland Trailblazers become an excellent online wager to cover the spread at 4 points or less.

To me, the fact that the Hornets just don’t cover spreads has to be taken into consideration when handicapping this game. NBA betting fans also have to consider the Trailblazers’ terrific at home against the spread record. This is true even if Roy doesn’t play.

I like the Portland Trailblazers no matter what Roy’s situation is in this game. I just believe that they step it up at home.

I’ll be making an online bet on the Trailblazers to cover against the BetOnline online sportsbook wagering spread in tonight’s game. My hope is that the online betting odds are set at 4 points or less.
