Feb. 5th– NBA Games

**Not counting Thursday and Friday night records and stats

Dallas Mavericks (33-15) at Charlotte Bobcats (21-27)

Where: Time Warner Cable Arena, Charlotte, North Carolina

When: 7:00 pm EST

Fair NBA Odds: Dallas -6 ½

Analysis: The Mavericks have begun to display the form that led them to one of the best records in the NBA, both straight up and against the basketball odds line, before Dirk got injured. Dallas has won 6 straight games going into Friday’s match up with Boston and the Mavs have gone 4 and 1 against the spread in their last 5 games including covering spreads versus New York and Atlanta. Charlotte is a tough team but they’re not as strong offensively as Dallas and the Mavericks defense, based on stats, is actually more effective than Charlotte’s. I believe the Mavs should be able to cover a -6 ½ point spread or less in the game on Saturday.

Los Angeles Lakers (34-15) at New Orleans Hornets (32-19)

Where: New Orleans Arena, New Orleans, Louisiana

When: 8:00 pm EST

Fair NBA Odds: New Orleans +2 ½

Analysis: The Lakers have a tough game on Thursday versus the San Antonio Spurs as a -3 ½ point home favorite in the online sportsbook. If they get past the Spurs, then there’s no reason to believe they’ll be the dog versus New Orleans in Louisiana on Saturday. Even if the Spurs upset the Lakers, New Orleans is likely to be the underdog in this matchup because of the Lakers’ reputation. I don’t like L.A. in this game. New Orleans’ sports the #2 defense in the NBA, it allows only 91.9 points per game, and Chris Paul should have his way with the Lakers’ point-guards. This could be a tough game for Kobe and Co. on Feb. 5th.

Oklahoma City Thunder (31-17) at Utah Jazz (29-21)

Where: EnergySolutions Arena, Salt Lake City, Utah

When: 9:00 pm EST

Fair NBA Odds: Oklahoma City -2 ½

Analysis: Even with a healthy Deron Williams in the backcourt, it’s tough for me to envision the Jazz having much shot of beating Oklahoma City on the NBA odds moneyline on Saturday. Both Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook play non-stop and Williams is only one man. Utah’s not really an offensive team, they average only 99.4 points per, but they’re not a defensive team either, they allow 99.1 points per. That’s not a good thing for them because Oklahoma City’s offense averages over 104 points per game. Westbrook and Durant are good enough to force most teams to play their style of run and gun hoops.
