NBA Rumors – Is Steve Nash On The Trading Block?
January 6, 2011
According to various reports and NBA rumors, Steve Nash is on the trading block and could very well be purchased from the Phoenix Suns if the price is right.
At 36-years old, with an attractive contract, and steady production, almost every team in the league would love to add Nash.
The question is which team has the nuts to make this NBA rumor become reality.

New York Knicks (+5000 odds to win NBA Betting Championship)
This is the most obvious destination for Steve Nash. The premise is that he’d reunite with Mike D’Antoni and Amar’e Stoudemire and offer at least a semblance of relief for Raymond Felton.
The main problem with pulling this trade now is Felton, because he’s enjoying a career year with Amar’e. Jeopardizing Felton’s mental stability would come part-and-parcel with trading for Nash, but it’s undeniable that Nash gives the Knicks a better chance to win an NBA Championship.
The other main issue with the NBA rumor of Nash matriculating to New York is that it would strip the Knicks of all the required pieces they’d need to facilitate a trade for Carmelo Anthony.
Given the choice between Nash and Melo, the Knicks can’t do anything to endanger their chances of acquiring Melo.
Portland Trail Blazers (+8000 odds to win NBA Championship)
If Steve Nash has any control of where he goes, the last place he’d want to go is Portland (and Toronto). At 36-years old, with an $11.7 million guarantee for next year, there’s no way Nash would risk injury playing for Portland. It happens to all of their players, and the reason that Portland is in the mix to acquire Nash to begin with. Not happening.
Orlando Magic (+1200 odds to win NBA Championship)
Huh? Didn’t they just trade for Arenas? Don’t they already have Jameer Nelson? Why are they even in this conversation? They’re not, people. Kill any NBA rumors of Nash going to Orlando in your skull right this minute.
Oklahoma City Thunder (+2000 odds to win NBA Championship)
This is the most intriguing NBA rumor out there revolving around Steve Nash. It doesn’t make sense at first, considering that Russell Westbrook is having an MVP worthy season, but there are two obvious wrinkles.
The first is that Oklahoma City needs a veteran to lead them out of the doldrums of Western Conference online betting playoff obscurity. They simply need it. They have nobody on this roster in a pivotal position that “knows how to get it done”, so to speak, and someone absolutely has to show Durant and Westbrook what it takes from the inside out.
The other is that the Thunder love playing small. It’s actually when they’re most effective. Move Westbrook to the two-spot and have Nash run the offense, and it makes sense on paper. The Thunder have been trying to rotate several different starting lineups lately, and acquiring a veteran point guard isn’t exactly their primary need (they actually should be targeting a veteran big man like Marcus Camby) but it’s certainly an NBA rumor worth listening to.
Frankly, any NBA rumor involving Steve Nash is worth keeping your ear to the track.
