NBA Playoff Prop Bets – Celtics vs Cavaliers
May 2, 2010
Not feeling comfortable betting the point spread in Monday night’s Game 2 between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics?
Well no worries, as there is still plenty to wager on, in some exciting NBA Prop bets. Let’s look at a few right now.
Total 3-point Shots Made- Over (-115) or Under (-115) 12 ½: It’s no secret that both teams feature stellar perimeter play, and great spot up shooters, with guys like Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, Mo Williams and Delonte West on the court. So how could these two have combined to go just 8 for 28 from down town in Game 1?
The truth is, that in the playoffs, defense tightens up, and the open looks that players were getting during the regular season don’t come nearly as easily in the postseason. Allen finished just 2 of 7 from downtown in Game 1 after making 145 during the regular season, and Williams and West combined to attempt just three three’s, missing them all.
While the numbers should improve, the play bet here is still the under. The truth is that both teams tried to establish the post in Game 1, as Shaquille O’Neal (Cleveland) and Kevin Garnett (Boston) were offensive focal points early. Expect that to continue in Game 2.
And when each team needs shots down the stretch, expect LeBron James and Rajon Rondo to take the ball at the basket. There just aren’t many three’s to be taken, meaning you should go UNDER on this NBA Playoffs prop bet.
Ray Allen Total Points- Over (-105) or Under (-125) 17 ½ Points: Just a few weeks ago on Easter Sunday, Allen had one of the best performances of his season, as he went off for 33 points and six three-pointers in a four point win. However, he followed that up with just 14 points in Game 1 of this series. So will he get to 17 ½ tonight? Don’t be so sure.
The truth is, that while Allen has been an All-Star most of his life, he is no better than the fourth option offensively on this team. Again, the Celtics want to establish Garnett in the post, let Rondo create off the dribble, and Paul Pierce is still their best all-around player. Those three combined for 47 shots and 58 points in Game 1, meaning that there just aren’t that many shots to be had for Allen.
While he’ll make his open looks when he gets the chance, take Ray Allen under 17 ½ points in this prop bet.
Anderson Varejao Points + Rebounds- Over (-115) or Under (-115) 12 ½: Anyone who knows basketball knows that you can’t win a championship without a player like Varejao, a scrappy, hustler, who doesn’t care about stats, just getting wins. But for this prop bet, take the under of 12 ½ points and rebounds.
With Cleveland as deep as it’s ever been, and Shaq and J.J. Hickson splitting minutes that almost exclusively went to Varejao just a few years ago, his impact in this series will likely be minimal going forward. He hasn’t totaled more than 12 ½ combined points and rebounds in any Cleveland game since their first against the Bulls in the opening round of these playoffs.
Make Varejao’s under, your last NBA Playoffs prop bet on Monday night.
