NBA Playoff Parlay – Lakers and Nuggets to Roll
May 8, 2009
The NBA Playoffs have gotten hot. The Lakers and Rockets were in a serious tussle the other night with Derek Fisher getting suspended and Ron Artest and Kobe Bryant almost going to blows.
Finally, the Lakers showed some spunk after getting ripped a new one in Game One of the series. L.A. will try to hold its own versus the Rockets on Friday night.
In the second game of the parlay, the Denver Nuggets, who are seemingly unstoppable so far this post-season, travel to Dallas to take on the Mavericks. Denver has gone 7 and 0 ATS since the NBA playoffs started.
Let’s take a look at the parlay.
Parlay Game #1: L.A. Lakers vs. Houston Rockets
Spread: Lakers -1
BetOnline Total: 194
Analysis: The Lakers really stepped it up in Game Two. There are two schools of thought regarding this series. The first school says that the Lakers just aren’t tough enough and that the Rockets bounce back in Game Three in the comfy confines of their own house. The other school of thought, and the one that I adhere to, is that the Lakers have adjusted, while the Rockets played about as well as they could in Game One and really won’t be able to change how they defend against the Lakers. Then there’s the thinking that losing Derek Fisher for a game could cost the Lakers.
To me, the Rockets are a terrific team but L.A. is much deeper, stronger, faster, and are able to adjust while the Rockets simply can’t. If gamblers forget about Game One of this series, then they realize that the Lakers were 4 and 0 ATS on the season against the Rockets. So, now the Lakers are 5 and 1 in six games ATS and straight-up against Houston. I like L.A.
Pick: L.A. Lakers at -1 in the sportsbook
Parlay Game #2: Denver Nuggets vs. Dallas Mavericks
Spread: Nuggets +4
BetOnline Total: 209
Analysis: How is Dallas going to win a game in this series? Josh Howard is questionable for Saturday and didn’t score a point in Game Two. Dirk Nowitzki has been fantastic but his 35 points in Game Two, like his 28 points in Game One, were meaningless because the Nuggets won and covered in both games. Denver is just the better team. 7 and 0 ATS since the playoffs started, the Nuggets really shouldn’t lose a game in this series, but gamblers shouldn’t worry too much about it. They can take the Nuggets at +4 and feel comfortable by putting them in the parlay.
Pick: Denver Nuggets at +4 in the sportsbook
