NBA Playoff Parlay – Dallas Looks Solid Against the Spurs and Charlotte Won’t Let Orlando Rack Up Easy 1st Half Points Again

April 21, 2010

Wednesday night will provide two terrific basketball betting opportunities for sports gamblers.

Both opportunities should make for a terrific parlay wager that could yield fantastic profits in the basketball sportsbook.  Both wagers are below.

Game-nights:  4/21/2010

NBA Playoff Parlay

Charlotte Bobcats vs. Orlando Magic

Tip-off:  7:05 pm EST

NBA Odds:  Charlotte +9

Analysis:  Forget about the fact that the Magic blew a 24 point lead against the Bobcats in Game 1 of their best of seven series.  Actually, don’t forget that.  The reason that the Magic blew that lead is because the Bobcats figured out how to defend the Magic’s shooters.  That doesn’t mean, of course, that the Magic don’t play a half-court set and dump the ball down to Dwight Howard or become aggressive and drive the lane or run their shooters off of picks. It does mean, though, that the Bobcats don’t allow the Magic to rack up 30 and 28 points in the 1st and 2nd periods of this game.

What does it add up to?  The Bobcats covering the spread. The Bobcats figure to use as much of that 24 second shot clock as possible and the Magic figure to lay low and not rush their shots like they did in the second half of Game 1.  A slow game might not necessarily mean that this game doesn’t go over because the over/under of 187 is very low, but it does mean that the Bobcats keep it close and if Orlando forgets the plan and does rush their shots, then the Bobcats chances of not just covering ATS but actually winning the game increases.

Pick:  Charlotte +9

San Antonio Spurs vs. Dallas Mavericks

Tip-off:  9:30 pm EST

NBA Odds:  Dallas -3 ½

Analysis:  Dallas is simply a better team than the San Antonio Spurs who had no answer for Dirk Nowitzki in Game 1.  The Spurs shot 50% from the field but were out-rebounded nasty by the Mavericks.

The Mavericks figure to do the same thing again on Wednesday night in Game 2.  The Spurs are in trouble whether they let Nowitzki blanket them with points or not.  If they commit to stopping Nowitzki, then the Mavericks will get Jason Terry, who was held to 5 points in Game 1, or Shawn Marion involved.  If they don’t take Nowitzki out of the game, then he can put up 36 again or even more depending on what the Spurs try to do with him.

An even worse sign for the Spurs in this game is that their dominant player, Tim Duncan, was out-rebounded by the Maverick’s Erick Dampier 12 to 8.  The Mavs have obviously decided to let Tim get his points but to outwork him on the defensive end.  If Duncan doesn’t put up 27 and instead concentrates on defense, then who on the Spurs’ team will pick up the slack?

Nobody. That’s why the Mavs will cover the spread again.

Pick:  Dallas Mavericks -3 ½

I’m going to parlay these to wagers on Wednesday night in hopes of cashing in on a big basketball bet!
