NBA Playoff Betting – Can Suns Even Series at Home Against Lakers?

May 26, 2010

Many NBA betting and sports betting fans thought the Suns were done after two games in LA during which they looked like the inferior team and most spots on the court.

The Suns’ home court advantage is not to be underestimated, however, and Phoenix proved that with a harrowing Game Three win in which they used every ounce of energy to best the Lakers.

Now, can the Suns beat the NBA betting odds and win again on their home court to avoid going down 3-1 in the series?

Game Four should be the most intense for sports betting fans yet as Phoenix lays it all on the line tonight in front of a raucous home crowd.

Los Angeles Lakers (10-3 postseason record) at Phoenix Suns (9-4)

9 pm ET, TNT

NBA betting line: Lakers favored at –1 ½

The Suns needed a massive Game Three effort from Amare Stoudemire (42 points on the night) just to pull off a close win.

Now, can he duplicate that effort and give Phoenix a shot at making this a series?

One thing to know about the Suns going into this game for betting fans is that the team is a close-knit group who actually likes their coach, Alvin Gentry, which is a rarity in today’s NBA.

They will fight until the end, making a close game likely at home even though the Suns have a major talent deficit at some spots compared to the deep LA Lakers.

The Suns actually have a one-point edge on the Lakers in terms of scoring margin for the playoffs but that is skewed a bit by their blowout wins.

The Lakers prefer defensive games and that leads to closer games much of the time for betting fans. It should also be noted that they are playing for Phil Jackson, their coach who might retire after the season, ending one of the most brilliant careers in the game’s history.

Game Four should be the same, but the difference for sports betting and NBA betting fans is that the Lakers have the best closer in the game in Kobe Bryant and far more late offensive options in the post.

The Suns live and die by the three-pointer and the fast break and LA can shut both of them down in a close game. Pau Gasol and others down low will prove to be too much for the Suns to cover the sports betting spread, even at home in a must-win game. Expect the Lakers to pull away late in this one.

NBA betting pick: LA Lakers (-1 ½).
