NBA Playoff Betting – Can Celtics Beat Magic, Reach NBA Finals?

May 28, 2010

The Boston Celtics seemingly had their series against Orlando in the bag, but then the Magic got untracked and became the team sports betting and NBA betting fans thought they could be.

The NBA betting line shifted in Orlando’s favor for Game Five at home but now it’s back in Boston’s favor for Game Six.

Can the Magic overcome the spread and shock the sports betting world once again in Boston tonight?

Orlando Magic (10-3 playoff record) at Boston Celtics (11-5)

8:30 pm ET, ESPN

NBA betting line: Boston favored at -3 ½

The Celtics will need to contain Jameer Nelson this time around to win, even with the game at home and the Celtics boasting some positional advantages on the Magic.

Nelson has gone off in recent games from three-point range and many sports fans thought that the Magic would need to hit a lot of threes to have a chance to win going into this series. Nelson is seeing more picks set for him each game out and Rajon Rondo has gotten a little bit confident from his earlier successes.

We’ll find out what Rondo is made of tonight. The young PG is the catalyst for the Celtics on offense with his deft passing and ball-fakes and also on defense much of the time with his ability to get in passing lanes and to pressure ball-handlers into making mistakes. Boston is 6-2 SU at home during the playoff season so far but Orlando is 5-1 SU on the road during the playoffs which is even more impressive.

Paul Pierce seems to be ailing a bit, however, which could hurt Boston, and Dwight Howard’s increased ferocity is making him tougher to handle on the inside. If Nelson keeps hitting threes and Howard has a good game on both ends, the Magic can easily stay close and cover the sports betting spread tonight.

The NBA betting spread and past results in this series suggest a close one and sports betting fans everywhere are wavering.

But Orlando has the confidence and health advantages now and that will be big in this one.

NBA betting pick: Orlando Magic (+3 ½).
