NBA Player Power Poll – LeBron, Kobe and the Usual Suspects

January 16, 2010

Anyone can put together a set of NBA power rankings involving teams quite easily. But you can only find a list of the top players to their team right here at BetOnline Sportsbook!

1: LeBron James, Cleveland Cavaliers (29.5 PPG, 7.2 RPG, 7.8 APG) It’s going to be hard to knock LeBron off of this list as the top player in the NBA power rankings. The King clearly does more for his team than anyone else does in the league. If you took LeBron out of this lineup, this team would be a crying joke… at best. But James has put up at least 35 points in four straight games and has played at least 40 minutes in all four.

2: Dwyane Wade, Miami Heat (26.9 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 6.2 APG) When you’re talking about players who mean the most to their team, Wade, much like LeBron is in Cleveland, is the heart and soul of the Heat. When he isn’t on the court, the team just seems to stop functioning. On Wednesday night, "Flash" put forth a tremendous effort, scoring 35 points to go with nine assists and seven boards to lead Miami to a 115-102 victory in Golden State.

3: Steve Nash, Phoenix Suns (19.2 PPG, 11.2 APG) There’s a reason that Nash has hauled in a pair of MVP awards in his career. The soon-to-be 36-year old is still flying all over the court, and there’s no doubt that he is the most valuable player on a team that is exceeding its expectations this year. The Canadian has recorded at least eight assists in 15 straight games and has only had one game with fewer than five assists all season. If he was just a distributer, he’d be an incredible asset, but Nash’s 19.2 points per game solidifies his spot on this list.

4: Kevin Durant, Oklahoma City Thunder (28.9 PPG, 6.9 RPG) With as strong as the Thunder have played lately, it’s hard to ignore what Durant has been doing. Even though he is only 21, Durant is basically the elder statements of a very young team, and he’s been doing a fantastic job of guiding OKC towards the postseason. Just check out his L/3 games for proof of how important he is. He has averaged playing 40 minutes per game and scored an average of 35.0 points per game. Durant is second in the NBA in scoring, and he is single-handedly putting a very youthful team on his back.

5: Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles Lakers (28.7 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 4.5 APG) Kobe’s value has been diminished this year because the rest of the team around him is just so darn good that it’s not even remotely funny. Bryant is still one of the top scorers in the NBA, which will keep him on this list for at least a little while longer, but if the Lakers continue to prove that they can win games without him, we’ll have to drop him out of the NBA power rankings. Bryant has only scored 38 points, dished out five assists, and pulled in eight boards in total over the L/3 games.
