NBA Online Wagering Mavericks vs Jazz

December 26, 2008

The Dallas Mavericks have to keep the good times rolling when they bring their game to Utah to take on the Jazz. Sports betting fans who took Dallas straight-up as underdogs in the BetOnline online sportsbook against Portalnd on Dec. 25th have to be happy because the Mavs won by eight points. That’s pretty good considering that Portland is one of the top teams in their division this season. Against the BetOnline online wagering spread, Dallas has gone 13 and 15 overall. Here’s a stunner of an online basketball betting stat: at home the Mavericks are only 3 and 11 against the spread. On the road they are 10 and 4. That’s a very strange online betting stat.

The Utah Jazz have always been good at home. Even this season without Carolos Boozer they’ve done okay going 8 and 6 at home. A bigger issue is going to be the fact that Mehmet Okur, who was averaging 27 points a game, is questionable for this Friday match-up. The Jazz have the ability to win games without Okur because Derron Williams is that good, but they face an up hill battle because Jason Kidd can counter Williams for most of this game. Where is the scoring going to come from after Williams? That’s a huge question mark.

Here are my personal online betting odds for this game:

Dallas Mavericks – 3 ½ – 110 O 184 ½ – 110

Utah Jazz + 3 ½ – 110 U 184 ½ – 110

Here are a few online wagering trends that might help us find a good online bet in this game:

The Dallas Mavericks are 8 and 1 against the spread in their last 9 games on the road.

The Under is 5 and 1 in the Dallas Mavericks’ last 6 games playing on 0 days of rest.

The Utah Jazz are 7 and 1 against the spread in their last 8 games after an against the spread loss.

The Under is 5 and 0 in the Utah Jazz last 5 games at home.

Forget the trends in this game. I’ve listed the Mavericks as an online betting favorite on my personal NBA betting odds line because the Mavs, even though they are going into this game after playing on Christmas Day, will have their line-up intact while the Jazz are struggling to find anyone outside of Derron Williams who can score.

This has the makings of a blow-out if the Mavs aren’t too tired from playing the Trailblazers last night. The Mavericks should be able to get scoring from a number of players on t heir team while the Jazz will have to rely on Paul Milsap and Derron Williams to put the ball into the basket.

Now, if Mehmet Okur does play, the Jazz’s chances get better, but not by much. They will still need to find a way to keep Dirk Nowitzki from getting off and Jason Kidd is still a good enough defender to keep Williams in check. Also, I doubt Okur will be 100% for this game even if he does play.

I’ll be making an online bet on the Dallas Mavericks to cover in this game as long as the BetOnline online sportsbook against the spread line doesn’t go below 3 ½ points.
