NBA Online Betting Hornets vs Magic

December 26, 2008

The Magic have declared themselves contenders behind a furious rush from point-guard Jameer Nelson, and an MVP caliber season from Dwight Howard. Superman leads the league in rebounds per game and blocks, followed closely by Marcus Camby. When you rock a 20-13-3 average, you get noticed bar none. And now the Magic, who boast five double-digit scorers, can make a big statement by throwing New Orleans under the pain train.

The Magic have been one of the better bets in the NBA, going undefeated against the spread in their last 5 games, and dropping just one spread loss in their last six games at home. It’ll be fairly easy for the super sized Magic to make life hell for Tyson Chandler and James Posey of New Orleans. Trying to tame Dwight Howard is going to be difficult enough, but when you factor the effect that Rashard Lewis and Hedo are going to have at the same time, it’s going to be difficult for the undersized Magic to compete in the interior.

NBA Betting Trends

- New Orleans is 4-1 SU in their last 5 games

-New Orleans is 6-11-1 ATS in their last 18 road games

-New Orleans is 11-2 SU in their last 13 games

-Orlando is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games

-Orlando is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games at home

-the total has gone UNDER in 8-of-9 when Orlando plays New Orleans

So what about the Hornets, who have ripped off a ridiculous winning record since getting embarrassed by the lack luster Kings? Chris Paul has returned to the MVP caliber performer that we’ve expected of him. Paul currently posts 20 points and 11 helpers and is once again helping the Hornets rise from the ashes of their early season ineptitude. In the meantime, however, this team is a leery bet. I have no doubt that this recent resurgence is for real. Still, I have reservations about their reliability against the spread.

The preliminary lines for the Christmas games has yet to be released, but I’ll give you these numbers to chew on. The Magic have played five straight games against the Western Conference, two of which were against the Golden State Warriors who they dismantled by an average margin of 21.5 points per game. Their other three games were against the Spurs, Lakers and Utah, whom they averaged a point differential of +14.0. What does that mean? Read on…
