NBA Odds Suns @ Blazers

December 18, 2008

The revamped Phoenix Suns (15-10 SU, 10-15 ATS, 16-9 O/U) have won two consecutive games in the BetOnline Sportsbook but have struggled with inconsistency all season long.

The young Portland Trailblazers (16-10 SU, 12-13 ATS, 11-15 O/U) are clearly headed in the right direction but still have some maturing to do.

Tonight, both teams will look to record a victory when they meet at the Rose Garden in Portland.

The Suns picked up their second straight win on Monday and fourth in their last five games, beating the New York Knicks 111-103 on Monday, but have failed to cover the spread in two straight for BetOnline NBA sports betting backers.

The Suns got 23 points from Shaquille O’Neal and 21 points apiece from Steve Nash and Amare Stoudemire in their matchup against their former head coach in an emotional contest.

"To lose somebody that you worked so closely with and so positively with, who had a great relationship with the city and the fans," Nash said of D’Antoni, "it was an emotionally charged game by regular-season standards."

In his first start since being acquired from the Charlotte Bobcats for veterans Raja Bell and Boris Diaw on Dec. 10, swingman Jason Richardson had 16 points and seven rebounds against the Knicks.

The Blazers routed the Sacramento Kings 109-77 on Tuesday night, getting 29 points from all-star shooting guard Brandon Roy.

"I bounced right up and got ready to go out there," said Roy, who had his left knee drained before Tuesday’s game and is also nursing a torn tendon in his right pinkie finger. "I’m not going to make any excuses while I am out there. I’m just going to play."

Here is a look at tonight’s key trends, followed by my in-depth analysis and NBA Free Pick:

Phoenix is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games when playing Portland

Phoenix is 5-0 ATS in its last 5 games when playing on the road against Portland

Phoenix is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games when playing on the road against Portland

The total has gone OVER in 9 of Phoenix’s last 10 games

Portland is 11-2 SU in its last 13 games at home

The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Portland’s last 5 games when playing Phoenix

The total has gone UNDER in 10 of Portland’s last 13 games

The total has gone UNDER in 6 of Portland’s last 8 games at home

NBA Odds

Phoenix Suns +5 -110

Portland Trailblazers -5 -110

Over 202 -110

Under 202 -110

Analysis: While I like the direction that the young Portland Trailblazers are headed in and think they have a decent chance of winning at home tonight, I really like the Suns to cover the spread while pushing the Blazers for the outright win as they have gotten back to playing a bit more up-tempo basketball.
