NBA Odds – Detroit, Dallas, Memphis, Figure to Cover on Saturday as Faves

February 26, 2011

The Detroit Pistons, yes, the Pistons, figure to cover the NBA online odds in the sportsbook as favorites on Saturday, February 26th.

Also on Saturday, the Dallas Mavericks take on those whacky Washington Wizards and the Memphis Grizzlies try to claw the Kings at home. Check out a preview of each game below.

** Stats and records not counting Friday night games.

Utah Jazz (31-27) at Detroit Pistons (21-38)

Where: The Palace of Auburn Hills, Auburn Hills, Michigan

When: 7:30 pm EST

Fair NBA Odds: Detroit -3 ½

Analysis: I’m curious to see how well the Deron Williams-less Utah Jazz play against the Indiana Pacers as a 6 point NBA betting underdog in the sports book on Friday night. Either way, I don’t see Utah coming close to beating Detroit on Saturday. Detroit may not be a good team but they’re a veteran team and Rip Hamilton can still get the rock into the cup once in a while. I’ll take Tracey McGrady, Rodney Stuckey, Rip and Ben Wallace over the Utah squad sans D-dub any day of the week. Detroit faces Philly on Friday night, but it shouldn’t matter. They blow that game and then play well against Utah.

Dallas Mavericks (41-16) at Washington Wizards (15-41)

Where: Verizon Center, Washington, District of Columbia

When: 8:00 pm EST

Fair NBA Odds: Dallas -8 ½

Analysis: The Mavs have gone 5 and 0 both against the spread and on the NBA moneyline odds in their last 5 games. They could be a more than double-digit wagering favorite over the Washington Wizards on the road this Saturday. Dallas is simply the better team, though. So, even though I wouldn’t categorize the Mavs at -10 or -11 odds as being fair in this game, I’m not exactly going to run to my computer and place a wager on the Harry Potters either. I’m instead probably going to think about going under in a game where both teams figure to take their time in the half-court game. Washington just isn’t very good, though, so Dallas might run all over them and score well over 100 points in this contest. Tread carefully, friends.

Sacramento Kings (14-41) at Memphis Grizzlies (32-27)

Where: FedEx Forum, Memphis, Tennessee

When: 8:00 pm EST

Fair NBA Odds: Over 197 ½

Analysis: Memphis is an iffy team to back against the basketball betting spread because Rudy Gay is still out and Shane Battier, their big trade acquisition this past Thursday, is only probable for Saturday. What is a good wager to make is on the game to go over the total. I don’t see the total approaching more than 198 points in this contest. I’m hoping that it’s no more than 197 but you never know. Sacramento can ring the nets once in a while, they scored 111 versus Orlando, and Memphis probably isn’t going to play lock down D. Instead, the Grizzlies are going to run with the Kings. Over appears like a solid wager in my mind.
