NBA Odds:  Phoenix -2.5, New York +2.5, Total 220

Here are some of the trends that involve NBA odds on this matchup:

  • New York has won 17 of its last 23
  • New York has won eight of its last 11 road games SU
  • Phoenix has played four of its last six games UNDER the total
  • Phoenix has lost six of its last seven games SU
  • Phoenix has covered four of its last13 games
  • Phoenix has covered two of its last seven home games
  • Phoenix has lost five of its last seven home games SU

Phoenix is in second place in the Pacific Division, but that is because they also have the Warriors, Clippers and Kings in that division with them. The Suns have not had a "shining" record in the NBA odds, as they have covered only 13 of 33 games, and six of 16 at home.

New York is in sixth place in the Eastern Conference, but they are pretty solidly in there, five games ahead of Indiana, so it looks as if unless they have a total collapse, they are going to be heading to the playoffs. Whether they can get into the top half of the queue and host a playoff series, however, is another question.

Here are some of the head-to-head trends that concern NBA odds on this game:

  • Thirteen of the last 17 meetings have gone OVER the total
  • Phoenix has won ten of the last 13 meetings SU
  • New York has covered eight of the last 11 meetings
  • Phoenix has won the last five meetings SU as the home team
  • New York has covered four of the last six meetings as the home team

The Knicks have gotten a couple of days off since making a statement against league-leading San Antonio at the Garden on Tuesday night. The 13-point win was important after losing to the likes of Miami, Orlando and Boston over the last few weeks. With this appearance in Phoenix, it has the potential of illustrating the effect of one team losing coach Mike D’Antoni and Amare Stoudamire and the other team gaining them. Still, the NBA odds on this game may not be reflecting that.

This is one of those rare occurrences where you can say the Knicks are actually the better defensive team. That’s because Phoenix has not gotten a handle on stopping people, allowing 48.5% shooting. Not only have the Knicks led the league in scoring, they have also led the league in scoring on the road, and that has led to a 13-4 ATS record as the visitor in the NBA odds. We don’t have much confidence in what Phoenix can do, and after the trades they just made, which sent Hedo Turkoglu and Jason Richardson away, we haven’t exactly seen the positive effect. We’re definitely "on the take" here with the Knicks in the NBA odds for Friday.
