NBA Lock Alert – Celtics to Take Down Nets Tonight in Jersey

March 5, 2009

The Boston Celtics (47-14 SU, 33-28 ATS, 27-33-1 O/U) have alternated wins and losses over their last four games and were manhandled by the Detroit Pistons in their 105-95 loss on national television as an 8.5-point home favorite on Sunday.

All-star forward Paul Pierce led the Celtics with 26 points while Glen Davis delivered 18 points off the bench in the loss while the combined score played OVER the posted over/under total (179).

The New Jersey Nets (27-33 SU, 32-28 ATS, 31-29 O/U) beat the Milwaukee Bucks 99-95 on Tuesday night to cash in for BetOnline Sportsbook backers as a 4-point road underdog just as I predicted in the BetOnline Locker Room that day.

Blossoming rookie center Brook Lopez continued his push for the Rookie of Year award by scoring 24 points and grabbing 12 rebounds to lead the Nets while the game played under the 204-point O/U total.

Here is a look at tonight’s key trends, followed by my in-depth analysis and NBA Free Pick.

  • Boston is 5-0 ATS in its last 5 games when playing New Jersey
  • Boston is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games when playing New Jersey
  • Boston is 5-0 ATS in its last 5 games when playing on the road against New Jersey
  • Boston is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games when playing on the road against New Jersey
  • The total has gone OVER in 5 of New Jersey’s last 5 games at home
  • The total has gone UNDER in 4 of New Jersey’s last 5 games when playing at home against Boston
  • New Jersey is 6-2 ATS in its last 8 games at home
  • The total has gone UNDER in 12 of New Jersey’s last 17 games when playing Boston

NBA Odds:

  • Boston Celtics -7 -110
  • New Jersey Nets +7 -110
  • Over 194 -110
  • Under 194 -110

Analysis: While I absolutely love the overachieving nature the New Jersey Nets have shown this season and think this point spread is just a wee bit on the low side. I’m going to roll with the Boston Celtics to beat the Nets on the road and cover the spread for BetOnline NBA Sportsbook members everywhere.

The C’s have shown some fight despite not having defensive ace and emotional leader Kevin Garnett in the lineup and have covered the spread in a whopping seven consecutive games against the Nets.

I also like the Under in this matchup as these two teams have combined to go under the posted O/U total in three straight games in New Jersey and five of six meetings on the Nets’ home floor overall.

NBA Free Picks: Boston -7 Points/Under 194 Total Points
