NBA Friday Rundown with Picks

January 9, 2009

ORLANDO MAGIC -5.5 over Atlanta Hawks

Are the Hawks going to be out for blood after dropping a game to the Orlando Magic in Atlanta? I’d say yes, especially with a somewhat hefty spread on the road. Atlanta 6-2 ATS in their last 8 roadies, but are just 3-9 SU in their last 12 games. Orlando looks ridiculous at home and are 13-3 ATS in their last 16 games. I said it on the NBA Podcast for BetOnline Radio (radio.betus.com) this week: Orlando is the betting bandwagon you want to be calling shotgun on! Do it!

TORONTO RATORS -5.5 over Memphis Grizzlies

Holy crap the Grizzlies are bad. With a 2-8 ATS record over their last 10 games away from home, there is no fiery chance in a freezing cold hell of you winning any money on the Memphis Grizzlies tonight. I know Toronto has been dog crap this year, but if they lose to the Grizzlies with this spread, they don’t deserve to have a team. Shut down O.J. Mayo, which is easier than it sounds, and you are laughing all the way to the bank. Bosh and the Raptors are just 5-12 ATS in their last 17 games, but are starting to pick up the pace, especially with a convincing win over Washington in their back pocket. Bet Toronto.

Charlotte Bobcats +6 over PHIALDELPHIA 76ERS

The oddsmakers are still trying to lull you in to believing that Charlotte is bad and the Sixers are rock stars. Don’t get caught under the bus. The Bobcats are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games against Philadelphia, and have the athleticism and defense to make life hard for a Sixer team that is still rolling forward sans Elton Brand.

Washington Wizards -7 over CHICAGO BULLS

Don’t fall asleep on those Wizards folks. They may have just 7 wins on the season, but this team is also 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games. I’d feel more comfortable betting on a reliable spread buster like Washington, as opposed to an NBA sports betting dud like the Chicago Bulls. If you don’t believe me, then you can go ahead and eat a sandwich made of Chicago’s 1-6 ATS record and their 3-6 ATS record at home. Taste like a sucker’s bet, right?

New Jersey Nets +5 over MILWAUKEE BUCKS

“Hey Vince, you gonna play with Bron Bron after February?”

“I dunno, Michael Redd. It depends if you’re team is stupid enough to give Cleveland its two best players in the same year.”

“Yeah, but Wally Z has some nice hair.”

“No doubt, you can totally see it in those Sketchers commercials.”

“Word.”

And so on. Both New Jersey and Milwaukee are strong bets overall. New Jersey has a stiff 7-3 ATS record in their last 10 road games, while also going 9-1 ATS and SU in their last 10 games against Milwaukee. The problem for the Bucks will be covering the dynamic duo of Carter and Harris, a feat that most teams are getting overwhelmed by. Despite Milwaukee’s 7-2 ATS record over their past 9 home games, I’m sticking with the Nets with the points.
