NBA Free Picks – Dallas visits Rock Steady Atlanta
March 19, 2009
It took quite a while, but the Atlanta Hawks have rejuvenated themselves in to the contender that we thought they were last year when they pushed the eventually NBA Champion Boston Celtics to the edge in a seven game thriller during the first round. Now they look like that team again.
A lot of has to do with – you guessed it – Joe Johnson averaging staggering 29.2 points per game in the last five outings for the Atlanta Hawks. The sports betting faithful who have suffered through Atlanta’s woes this season, are finally being rewarded by doubling up on Atlanta whenever they play at home. As far as bets go in the NBA, it’s becoming one of the safer ones to consider when stacking a parlay or looking for a sure thing.
Not to be outdone, Dallas has gone a steady 4-2 SU in their last 6 games, but it’s their road record that has me worried. Jason Kidd isn’t getting any younger, and traveling to the Dirty South has me concerned for the Dallas nba betting faithful that keep lumping faith and money behind the Mavs.
NBA Betting Trends
-Dallas is 4-2 ATS in their last 6 games
-Dallas is 3-6 ATS in their last 9 one the road
-Dallas is 2-7 SU in their last 9 on the road
-Atlanta is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games
-Atlanta is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games at home
-Atlanta is 1-6 SU in their last 7 games when playing Dallas
-total has gone OVER in 5 of 7 when Dallas plays in Atlanta
The head-to-head record shouldn’t matter to you. The Mavs and Hawks played last in December 2008, and four times through the course of 2007. They haven’t met recently, and Dallas is hitting a bit of a wall. They’re racking up huge point totals, but handling a defensively minded Atlanta team in their own house won’t be an easy challenge.
Dallas Mavericks (41-27) vs. Atlanta Hawks (40-28)
Thursday, March 19th — Phillips Arena, Atlanta — 7:00pm EST
NBA Betting Line: Atlanta -6 (196.5)
Atlanta has the momentum in hand, crushing Sacramento, Portland, Utah and New Orleans in their own house and covering each time. The OVER is a safe bet as Dallas forgets how to play defense when on the road. Dallas gives up just 97.2 points per game on the road, but have given up an average of 106.6 points per game in their last five. Take Atlanta to cover.
NBA Free Pick: Atlanta -6 (OVER)
