NBA Finals – San Antonio Spurs Offering Excellent Value in NBA Futures Book

February 11, 2011

The San Antonio Spurs sit atop the NBA world with an incredible 44 and 8 straight up record yet they are only the third choice in the NBA futures book to win this season’s NBA Finals.

Does future bet players really believe that the Spurs aren’t the best team in the NBA this season? I guess that they do. Not me. I’m all over the overlaid odds in the sportsbook! In my opinion, there are really only 7 teams capable of winning this year’s NBA Championship. Keep reading for the best NBA future bets to win this season’s NBA Finals.

NBA Championship Futures

** Listed in order of NBA futures betting value.

  1. San Antonio Spurs +500 – - They’re 44 and 8, people! 44 and 8 and they’re offering +500 odds to win the NBA Championship? Does that make sense to everybody but me? Am I the only one? San Antonio’s top scorer, Manu Ginobili, averages only 18.2 per game. What it says is that the Spurs are incredibly deep offensively because they average 104 points per contest. They’re also a decent defensive team as evidenced by them holding teams to 96.7 points per contest.

  1. Boston Celtics +400 – - The Big 3 of Boston, and Rajon Rondo, are carrying this team right now, Shaquille O’Neal, Jermaine O’Neal, Delonte West and Marquis Daniels are all hurt, but they’re still 38 and 13 going into their Feb. 10th game with the L.A. Lakers. What does that tell online future betting fans? That the Celtics, unless Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, Rondo or Kevin Garnett gets hurt, will be even better once the playoffs start. Boston is determined to bring home another championship.

  1. Dallas Mavericks +2000 – - Why is everybody so chilly on the Mavs to win the NBA Finals this season? Dallas has a 37 and 15 record, Dirk Nowitzki missed a ton of games, and Caron Butler won’t be back until May. The Mavericks are one of the deepest teams in the NBA right now. Jason Terry and Shawn Marion both come off of the bench for Big D. Jason Kidd still averages 8.3 assists per game meaning that he hasn’t slowed down at all and Tyson Chandler can be a force in the middle. Dallas is designed to really push both the Lakers and the Spurs in the West this season.

  1. Orlando Magic +1200 – - I’m not exactly in love with Orlando to win the NBA Finals at this point in the season, but they are offering much better NBA future odds than the Lakers and Heat. The Magic can be exceptional one night and horrible the next. If they can gel more and find the consistency that they’ll need in order to upset the Celtics in the playoffs, then they’ll have a shot. Dwight Howard is still the most dominant big man in the game and the additions of Hedo Turkoglu and Jason Richardson adds scoring but Orlando can forget that they’re a defensive team, 44.3% per game allowed from the field, first and they must hold off on pulling the trigger on every open 3-point shot on offense.

  1. Los Angeles Lakers +300 – - Some NBA commentators, mainly Kenny Smith from TNT, has alluded that no team in the NBA can beat the Lakers in a 7 game series. I disagree with Kenny. The Lakers issues are far more reaching than anybody wants to admit. The front line, Ron-Ron Artest, Pau “Light it Up in a Cigarette Way” Gasol and Andrew “The Hobbler” Bynum, are fantastic if all 3 of them are healthy and mentally stable. I doubt all 3 will be. You know it’s bad in L.A. when management is talking about a “blockbuster deal” involving the Nuggets’ Carmelo Anthony.

  1. Miami Heat +200 – - They might be the best team in the NBA, and they might even win the NBA Championship, but are you willing to take +200 NBA future betting odds on them to do it? I’m not. The bench is horrific and Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade are soft, in a physical sense, not the way they play on the court, while LeBron is dominant only to a point. Yes, Feudal Lord James (like that? why call him “King” when he hasn’t won anything!) can light it up but sometimes it’s almost like he’s already turning into a crybaby and nobody’s smacked them around in the playoffs yet.

  1. Chicago Bulls +1800 – - The Bulls have quietly become one of the better squads in the NBA this season. They can definitely play with the best teams in the league and when Joakim Noah comes back they’ll a seriously awesome front line with Carlos Boozeer and Luol Deng already scoring points and grabbing boards. Point guard Derrick Rose is definitely a playa and the Bulls are good on both defense and offense. The key will be belief. If the Bulls believe that they can do it, win the NBA Finals, then they might actually do it. I’m waiting for their odds to rise some, however, before backing them with real money.
