NBA Eastern Conference – New York Continues to Reward Backers in NBA Sportsbook

December 6, 2010

The New York Knicks continue to reward their backers in the NBA sportsbook by covering point spread. The Knicks leapfrog the Chicago Bulls and Detroit Pistons to grab the top spot in the NBA Eastern Conference Top 5 against the spread because of a stellar week where they beat the New Orleans Hornets on the road straight up as an underdog.

As opposed to New York, the Miami Heat is still in the bottom 5 but LeBron, D-Wade and the Bosh Man are riding a 3 game against the spread streak going into their contest versus the Milwaukee Bucks on Dec. 6th. Also in the bottom 5 are the Atlanta Hawks. Like Miami, Atlanta has a winning record straight up but also a horrible record against the NBA betting spread.

Let’s get to the NBA Eastern Conference Top 5 and Bottom 5!

NBA Eastern Conference Top 5

  1. New York Knicks 12-9 (14-6-1 ATS) – - 9 and 1 ATS versus the pro basketball betting odds including winning 4 games straight up and against the spread make the Knicks one of the better teams to think about backing in the sportsbook. NYK has beaten New Orleans and Toronto on the road in their last 2 games.

  1. Detroit Pistons 7-14 (13-8 ATS) – - Detroit isn’t a good team but they’ve been very good against the spread this season. They’re only 2 and 3 ATS in their last 5 games, however, including failing to cover spreads versus Miami, Orlando and the Knicks meaning that the tide might be turning on this team as far as basketball betting is concerned.

  1. Philadelphia 76’ers 6-14 (12-7-1 ATS) – - Where did this come from? 7 and 1 against the basketball betting odds in their last 8 games? The 76’ers have covered versus Atlanta, Portland and Miami in 3 out of their last 5 games. That’s impressive. We’ll see if the odds makers begin to adjust the wagering lines on Philly or not very soon when they battle Boston on Dec. 9th.

  1. Chicago Bulls 10-8 (10-7-1 ATS) – - Like Detroit, the Bulls could be off of this list come next week because they’ve failed against the spread in 3 straight games. At least they beat the Houston Rockets in their last game, 119 to 116 in overtime, and failed in the other 2 games to Orlando and Boston, both quality teams. Hmm…maybe the Bulls bounce back and cover versus Oklahoma City, Cleveland and the L.A. Lakers in their next 3 games.

  1. Boston Celtics 16-4 (11-8-1 ATS) – - 3 and 1 ATS in their last 4 games including covers versus Chicago and Atlanta make the Celtics the best “winning” team in the Eastern Conference to cover a spread in the sportsbook.

NBA Eastern Conference Bottom 5

  1. Milwaukee Bucks 7-12 (6-12-1 ATS) – - 1-8-1 against the spread their last 10 games and only 6 victories against the NBA odds spread overall this season make the Bucks the team to bet against the spread in the sportsbook from the Eastern Conference.

  1. Miami Heat 13-8 (8-13 ATS) – - After going 0 and 7 ATS in 7 straight games, the Heat have responded beautifully in their last 3 contests by going 3 and 0 against the NBA betting spread. Miami has beaten teams by running, when taking down Cleveland 118 to 90, and by playing a slow down game, when beating Atlanta 89 to 77. Miami may have finally gotten it together this season.

  1. Atlanta Hawks 13-8 (8-13 ATS) – - The Hawks are the opposite of the Heat, going 0 and 3 ATS in their last 3 games. The 20-point loss to Miami has to be worrisome since they went in to that game off of con-covers versus Philadelphia and Memphis. Atlanta faces Orlando and San Antonio in 2 out of their next 3 games. That could be bad for them.

  1. Cleveland Cavaliers 7-13 (8-12 ATS) – - 3 and 7 ATS in their last 10, including the 90 to 118 beat down from the Heat on Dec. 2nd, make the Cavs another great team to go against in the NBA odds betting sportsbook. Good times don’t appear to be on the horizon for the Cavs. They play 4 games on the road in their next 5.

  1. Orlando Magic 15-5 (8-12 ATS) – - At least they’re 2 and 1 against the spread in their last 3 games. Some kind of illness attacked Dwight Howard, JJ Redick, Mickael Pietrus and Jameer Nelson last week. That explains the loss to the Milwaukee Bucks 85 to 96 as 4 ½ point road favorites.
