NBA Draft Lottery Odds
May 19, 2010
With the 2010 NBA Playoffs in full swing, it’s easy to forget that as good as the Lakers, Celtics, Magic and Suns are, there were quite a few teams who were just as bad as this year.
Well on Tuesday night, they’ll have an opportunity to change that, as the NBA gets set to host its Draft Lottery, with the winner ultimately ending up with the No. 1 pick.
As David Stern gets set to announce that team tonight, why not make it a little more exciting for yourself, and bet on NBA Draft Lottery.
Let’s look at the odds of some of the favorites:
New Jersey (+150): So what is New Jersey’s award for being one of the most unwatchable teams in modern NBA history? A 25 percent chance at getting the No. 1 pick.
Let’s make no mistake, there isn’t one person in this draft that will turn the Nets into a playoff team, but after a 12-70 season, Nets fans will most definitely be hoping to strike it rich Tuesday night.
Minnesota (+200): Because the Nets were so historically bad this year, it’s easy to forget that the Timberwolves were nearly as abysmal in the NBA’s Western Division as well. They finished with just 15 wins total, netting them a 19.9 percent chance of receiving the No. 1 pick.
Sacramento (+300): Of all the teams in the lottery, the Kings may be the one who could most take advantage of a high lottery pick. Sure their 2010 season was abysmal (finishing just 25-57), but they do welcome back the reigning NBA Rookie of the Year Tyreke Evans. Sacramento has a 15.6 percent shot at the top overall sport.
Golden State (+500): You know it’s not a draft lottery unless the Golden State Warriors are involved, and here they are looking once again for a young player to turn their franchise around. The Warriors were one of the NBA’s highest scoring teams last year, but were also the worst defensively, and a talent infusion is needed, especially down low. Golden State has a 10.4 percent chance at getting the top pick.
Washington (+700): After blowing up their team at this year’s trade deadline (Moving Antawn Jamison, Brendan Haywood and Caron Butler), the Wizards are most certainly looking for a fresh start, and the top pick could certainly help. Washington has slightly worse NBA odds than the Warriors do, with a 10.3 shot at the top overall pick.
Philadelphia (+1000): Has any franchise fallen harder than the Sixers, who won just 27 games a year after making the playoffs? Every team in this lottery needs more talent, but few need a complete overhaul like Philadelphia does. They enter Tuesday night with a 5.3 percent chance of getting the top pick.
Detroit (+1200): Who could have imagined that just two years removed from a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals against Boston, the Pistons would be picking in the NBA’s Draft Lottery? Well after a 27-55 finish, here they are, and boy does Detroit need help. Like Philadelphia, they have a 5.3 percent chance of winning the lottery.
Those are just some of the teams that you can place your NBA Draft Lottery bet on. Here are the rest…
Los Angeles Clippers: (+1500)
Utah Jazz (via New York Knicks): (+3500)
Indiana: (+4000)
New Orleans: (+5000)
Toronto: (+5000)
Memphis: (+8000)
Houston: (+8000)
