NBA Conference Finals Preview – How Each Team Adds Up Against The Spread
May 15, 2010
Before your place your NBA Playoffs bets, there is still a lot to learn.
Let’s take a look now, as to how all four teams have fared against the spread in these 2010 NBA Playoffs:
Orlando Magic (8-0 SU, 7-1 ATS, 3-1 ATS at home, 4-0 ATS on the road): Umm, well then. What else can we really say? The Magic are dominating teams both at Amway Arena and away from Orlando.
The only concern when betting Orlando is this: As good as they’ve been so far, they really weren’t all that good against the spread on the road this season. They finished up 22-18-1, a nice record, but not nearly as sparkling as their playoff resume might indicate.
Boston Celtics (8-3 SU, 8-3 ATS, 5-1 ATS at home, 3-2 ATS on the road): Boston has certainly been the surprise of these playoffs so far, as no one saw their second round domination of Cleveland coming.
As for their records at home vs. on the road, it’s not much surprise that the Celtics have had success in the TD Garden. It is one of the elite home courts in all of the NBA, and both the Heat and Cavaliers learned that the hard way, as each saw their season’s end in Boston.
What has been surprising of late though, has been how well Boston has played on the road. They took the last two games they played in Cleveland by a combined 50 points. Wow!
While it is probably a bit unrealistic to expect Boston to head into Orlando and dominate Game 1 like that, just keep in mind that the Celtics are veteran and experienced, and won’t be intimidated when hitting the road. Remember that when making your NBA Playoffs bets.
Los Angeles Lakers (8-2 SU, 6-4 ATS, 3-2 ATS at Home, 3-2 ATS on the Road): When looking at the Lakers record against the spread, it’s important to remember, that as the defending champion, they always get everyone’s best shot, especially when the postseason rolls around.
That may be what makes their run so far that much more impressive. After struggling early against Oklahoma City, the Lakers were able to force the Thunder out of the playoffs on the Thunder’s own home court, in a Game 6 elimination. They followed that up by dismantling the Jazz, winning games 3 and 4 in Salt Lake City, and covering both point spreads.
And that there, may be the greatest sign of a champion there is: Like the Celtics, this team knows how to finish, but not just at the Staples Center. They may be the best road bet in the NBA.
Phoenix Suns (8-2 SU, 8-2 ATS, 4-1 ATS at Home, 4-1 ATS on the Road): Let’s get a quick show of hands to see who had the Suns in the Western Conference finals? Anyone?
Regardless, the Suns are here, and they’ve done it in dominating fashion. After losing Game 1, and not covering, they’ve ripped off seven wins in eight games and seven covers in eight games, including four straight against the San Antonio Spurs.
With the Lakers the heavy favorites coming into the Western Conference Finals, remember, that the play here might be the Suns. You could do a lot worse when making your NBA Playoffs bets!
