NBA Betting – Worst Teams ATS in the First Half

January 14, 2010

Just as the good NBA betting teams have been very, very good this year, the worst NBA betting teams have been very, very bad. Here’s a look at the list compiled by BetOnline Sportsbook of the most disappointing ATS teams in the game as we near the halfway point of the season…

New Jersey Nets (13-25 ATS) It’s never a good sign when you outscore your opponents by 12 points in the second half, you’re catching eight points on the NBA betting line, and you still come nowhere near covering that number. That’s what happened to the Nets on Wednesday night against the Celtics, and it was just another example of how pathetic this team is. There are college clubs that may be able to hang with the 3-35 Nets, who have really looked disinterested all season. Until someone lights a fire under these guys’ rear ends, it’s impossible to back Jersey.

Washington Wizards (12-23-2 ATS) Maybe if G Gilbert Arenas spent more time worrying about how his Wizards were playing and less time wondering about which gun he should bring into the locker room, Washington would be a better team. But no, apparently, waving guns around is far more important, and the end result has been a miserable season for the team from our nation’s capitol. The Wiz have only covered two games since Christmas, and it’s simply impossible to back them with their poor team chemistry and lack of offensive talent.

Philadelphia 76ers (16-22 ATS) With the talent on this Philadelphia team, there’s no excuse to only be 12-26 SU and 16-22 ATS. F’s Andre Iguodala and Elton Brand have only combined to miss four games all year, and that should be one of the most lethal front court tandems in the country. However, in spite of the fact that six players are averaging double digits in scoring, Philly is only putting up 97.9 points per game. Because of the talent on the court, the oddsmakers almost refuse to adjust the lines, particularly when the Sixers are playing in the City of Brotherly Love. The end result is a 3-15 ATS record at home.

Indiana Pacers (16-22 ATS) At least the Pacers are starting to play better basketball. Considering how banged up this team was earlier in the season, we’ll give Indiana a pass on the poor play. If the offense can get things together, there’s enough talent on this team to sneak into the back end of the Eastern Conference playoffs in spite of the fact that the Pacers are only 13-25 SU. Over the L/8 games, they’ve averaged 107.0 points per game.

Los Angeles Lakers (17-22 ATS) The defending champs are a hard ATS team to read this year. They’ve already played an astounding 24 home games out of their first 39 (and that doesn’t include the "road trip" to the Staples Center against the Clippers), and even though they’re 12-12 ATS at home, they’re only 5-10 ATS on the road. As those long road trips start to mount, the team with the best record in the NBA may come back to earth a bit, but there’s still no doubting that the defending champs probably boast the most talented side in the league.
