** Records and stats not counting Thursday, Friday and Saturday games.
Miami Heat (38-14) at Boston Celtics (38-13)
Where: TD Garden, Boston, Massachusetts
When: 1:00 pm EST
Fair NBA Odds: Boston -1 ½
Analysis: Boston beat Miami 112 to 107 the last time these two teams faced each other. Boston was a 6 ½ point road dog in the basketball sportsbook on that day, Nov. 11th, 2010, but they outplayed the Heat to secure the victory. These two teams are very evenly matched. The difference is that Miami still isn’t playing as a total unit for the entire game while Boston’s players are almost always in perfect concert with each other. Hoops handicappers also have to like how point-guard Rajon Rondo plays for the Men in Green. Rondo gives Boston a huge, huge advantage in the point-guard position over Miami. I’ll back the Celtics.
Los Angeles Lakers (36-16) at Orlando Magic (34-20)
Where: Amway Center, Orlando, Florida
When: 3:30 pm EST
Fair NBA Odds: Lakers -1 ½
Analysis: The Lakers face Boston on Thursday night, NYK on Friday night, and then the Orlando Magic on Sunday. That’s a tough three games for the NBA online odds second choice (Miami is the favorite) to win the NBA Finals this season. L.A. has won 2 games in a row going into their Thursday nigh slugfest versus the Celtics. They should definitely be favored against the Knicks, but they might be a slight underdog versus Orlando on Feb. 13th. I like the Lakers’ chances because Orlando sometimes forgets that they need to play defense in order to beat teams and not just launch three-pointers.
Denver Nuggets (30-23) at Memphis Grizzlies (28-26)
Where: FedExForum, Memphis, Tennessee
When: 6:00 pm EST
Fair NBA Odds: Over 212 ½
Analysis: Talk about a team that refuses to play defense! The Nuggets are scoring 107.7 points per game. That’s why they continue to be competitive in the NBA line odds sports book. The reason that they fail to win more games than they lose in the sports book is because they give up 104.7 points per game on average. Denver just doesn’t like to play defense any more. Considering that Memphis front court player Zach Randolph averages 13.2 rebounds per game, it’s hard to imagine the Nuggets beating the Grizzlies on the boards and holding Memphis to under 108 to 110 in this contest. I’ll go over the total.
