NBA Betting Preview – Phoenix Suns To Burn Portland Trail Blazers
April 17, 2010
The Phoenix Suns are buzzing with playoff excitement and nobody is exuding more swagger than Amar’e Stoudemire. Standing on the brink of a free-agent market that could give him the long-term financial security he so desires, Stoudemire has been playing like a creature possessed by greatness.
With 26.8 points per game and 10.2 rebounds in his last five games, Stoudemire is stomping towards playoff glory with the confidence of a champion.
The rest of his teammates are sure to follow.
Of course, all the excitement surrounding this series was sucked out of the room when Brandon Roy hit the surgeon’s table to repair a torn meniscus.
For those unfamiliar with what that is, the meniscus is the disc inside the knee that absorbs all the pressure during high impact, especially any lateral movement.
Without Roy’s clutch shooting, or his 21.5 points per game, the Blazers simply don’t have the scoring punch to keep up with the running and gunning Suns.
#6 Portland Trail Blazers (50-32) vs. #3 Phoenix Suns (54-28)
Sunday, April 18th — US Airways Center — 10:30pm EST
NBA Betting Line: Phoenix -8 (204)
Since mid-March, the Suns have gone 14-2 SU in their past 16 games and are 11-4-1 ATS during that stretch. Against Portland, they have a head-to-head record of just 6-4 SU and 4-5-1 ATS but the injury to Roy changes everything.
Portland will be missing two integral parts to their future with Roy sidelined along with Greg Oden. The two of them combined for a difficult inside-outside presence that combined for 31.6 points per game. On the road, Portland finished the season 4-2 ATS in their last 6 games away from home.
That’s nice and all, but if you think they’re going to find a sudden burst of scoring off the bench to handle the Phoenix Suns, then you’ve been living under a rock and losing plenty of money during your time there.
Amar’e Stoudemire will put on a clinic that will decimate LaMarcus Aldridge and Marcus Camby despite both players being phenomenal defensive players.
The Suns are going to burn down the Blazers in four games straight, and it starts Sunday night.
