NBA Betting Picks – Cleveland Get Steep Points Against Bulls In Game 5

April 27, 2010

Well it turns out that the worst thing the Chicago Bulls could have done is win a game in this series. Sure, it gave the Chicago fans something to believe in, but it awoke the sleeping giant of LeBron James in an unimaginable way. After dropping a triple-double and burning down the Bulls in their own house, the Cavaliers return home to face the biggest spread of the series.

Try not to get too caught up in LeBron’s epic performance on Sunday. The Cavaliers are still 2-5 ATS in their past 7 games overall, and the Bulls have covered twice in this series already. Still, anytime a player like James drops a line of 37-11-12 in a game against a tough team like Chicago, it’s pretty much like being served an eviction notice.

Lost in the limelight of King James’ big night was that Joakim Noah went ballistic scoring 21-points and hauling down a game high 20 rebounds. Derrick Rose also scored 20-points. The Bulls have a bright future ahead of them, especially with the chances of Wade arriving in his hometown gaining more and more momentum.

Their immediate future, however, has nothing but dark clouds. Those silver linings won’t appear until July 1st, when the NBA free-agency frenzy finally kicks in.

NBA Betting Line: Cleveland -12 (199)

Cleveland has never been a team to decimate teams. They like winning methodically, and they don’t need to make statements. It’s a shame, really, because if they played like they did in Game 4, then they probably wouldn’t lose a game in NBA playoff betting.

Yes, I’m blaming them of coasting. They rest players, they don’t risk injury too often. They play with a sense of self-entitlement, and that is often the hubris that clips their wings. They’re 2-6 ATS in their past 8 games at home. You’d think they’d put on a dazzling show for their home town crowd when they could, but nope. They coast.

The Cavaliers will win this game, but Chicago is too proud to go down without a fight. Hinrich didn’t shot especially well on the road, but the Bulls can still do plenty without a strong day by Hinrich to cover a mammoth spread. From a betting perspective, I’m not counting on the Cavaliers until they show the steely resolve to play their best every night.

Furious NBA Free Pick: Chicago +12 (OVER) / Cleveland ML
