NBA Betting Picks – Trade Rumors Overshadow Spurs-Nuggets

December 16, 2010

There’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that Carmelo Anthony’s days are numbered with the Denver Nuggets, so if you want to bet on them to upset one of the best teams in basketball betting picks this may be one of your last chances. The Nuggets are coming off a huge win over Orlando and will host the Spurs tonight as NBA trade rumors continue to daunt them.

It’s hard to ignore how the trade rumors are affecting the Nuggets. New York remains the biggest suitor out there, and you have to imagine that the rest of the team isn’t playing for much since they know they’re a lottery team without Melo. But the reason the Melo rumors are having a trickle down affect is because a lot of trade scenarios are involving moving other players.

Considering that Chauncey Billups, who hails from Denver, is getting sucked in to potential trade scenarios has to affect the mindset of this team and despite the inclination to take this talented team in NBA betting picks, they’re simply too unpredictable to get any solid read on.

San Antonio Spurs (21-3) vs. Denver Nuggets (15-9)

Thursday, December 16th — Pepsi Center — 10:30pm EST

NBA Betting Line: San Antonio -1.0 (212)

Which is essentially the opposite perception we have of the San Antonio Spurs. The whole Tony Parker drama was expected to rip this franchise apart from the inside out, but instead San Antonio has gone 6-0 SU and 4-2 ATS in their last 6 games. Historically they’ve also had an advantage in Denver, going 4-1 ATS in their last five visits to the Pepsi Center.

Betting on so much uncertainty in Denver is a tricky thing. The team could be galvanized by all the talk. Melo could erupt on the scoreboard. We really have no idea, and while extenuating circumstances usually don’t have a massive affect on the court, I’m invoking a stay-away policy on Denver. It makes it an easier pill to swallow when they’re playing a dangerously cohesive unit like the Spurs.

BONUS NBA PICKS!

NEW JERSEY NETS -6.0 over Washington Wizards

Washington has generally owned this series, and are 5-0 SU while going 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against the Nets, but injuries to John Wall and other key players has slowed their chances down. The Wizards are a stay away in NBA betting picks for the time being, despite the fact that the Nets are 2-6 ATS and winless in their past 6 games.

Atlanta Hawks +7.5 over BOSTON CELTICS

What can I say? I like the Hawks on the road. They’re 8-5 ATS when playing away from home this year and are also 4-1 SU and ATS in their last 5 games against the Celtics. Boston barely escaped New York, thanks to Paul Pierce, and Atlanta is built to give Boston trouble. Boston’s 4-6-1 ATS record in their last 11 games at home this season makes me nervous as well, so take the road dog to cover in your NBA betting picks.
