NBA Betting Picks – Denver at Detroit

March 3, 2009

The Denver Nuggets (39-21 SU, 32-27-1 ATS, 31-29 O/U) had their modest two-game winning streak snapped the last time out, losing to the Indiana Pacers 100-94 as a 2-point road favorite on Sunday while he combined score fell Under the posted O/U total of 216 points.

Veteran point guard Chauncey Billups led the Nuggets with 27 points in a losing effort while forward Carmelo Anthony added 20 points in the loss.

The Detroit Pistons (29-29 SU, 23-35 ATS, 24-33-1 O/U) have won two consecutive games without ‘gunner supreme’ Allen Iverson following their horrific eight-game losing streak.

The Pistons looked like their old selves after upsetting the Boston Celtics on national television on Sunday, winning 105-95 as an 8.5-point road underdog while the combined score played Over the posted over/under total (179).

Veteran shooting guard Richard Hamilton, back in the starting lineup with Iverson out with a bad back, scored a team-high 25 points and added nine assists for Detroit, while Rasheed Wallace and Tayshaun Prince each added 15 points in the win.

Here is a look at tonight’s key trends, followed by my in-depth analysis and NBA Free Pick.

  • The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Denver’s last 7 games on the road
  • The total has gone UNDER in 10 of Denver’s last 14 games when playing Detroit
  • The total has gone UNDER in 7 of Denver’s last 10 games
  • Denver is 12-6 SU in its last 18 games
  • Detroit is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games when playing Denver
  • Detroit is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games when playing at home against Denver
  • Detroit is 5-1 ATS in its last 6 games when playing at home against Denver
  • Detroit is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 games when playing Denver

NBA Odds:

  • Denver Nuggets +3 -110
  • Detroit Pistons -3 -110
  • Over 188 -110
  • Under 188 -110

Analysis: I’m going to keep this pick short and sweet by simply saying that I fully expect the Detroit Pistons to continue staying on a Philly cheesesteak-sized roll as long as Allen Iverson doesn’t show up!

The fact of the matter is that A.I. as hard-nosed as he may be, is a ball-hogging gunner that threw the Pistons’ former chemistry totally out of whack by dominating the ball far too much.

Combine that fact with the fact that the Nuggets will be without leading scorer Carmelo Anthony and Detroit likely wants to beat former floor leader Chauncey Billups, and it’s easy to see why the Pistons will win and cover tonight.
