NBA Betting Odds – Knicks and Bobcats Look to Extend Winning Ways

January 8, 2010

NBA Betting Odds – Bobcats vs. Knicks (-3.5)
(O/U) 199.5
Thursday, January 7 – 7:30 PM ET

One team’s modest winning streak is coming to an end tonight.

The Charlotte Bobcats (15-18 SU, 21-12 ATS, 19-14 O/U) have won three consecutive games and the New York Knicks (14-20 SU, 17-17 ATS, 15-19 O/U) have won each of their last two games.

However, only one team will walk away victorious tonight and know exactly which one.

Hornets’ Lowdown

Charlotte has won three straight and four of its last five games and are starting to look very much like a typical defense-first Larry Brown ballclub.

Underrated forward Gerald Wallace scored a team-high 32 points and added nine rebounds to lead the Bobcats to a solid 114-108 win over the Chicago Bulls on Tuesday night. The Bobcats had their four-game ATS winning streak snapped as they failed to cash in for pro basketball betting backers as 6.5-point home favorites.

Charlotte has gone a bankroll-boosting 7-3 ATS over the last 10 games to remain one of the top payday-producers in the league this season.

Knicks’ Lowdown

The Knicks have won three of its last four games and six of its last 10 games overall.

New York blew out the struggling Indiana Pacers 132-89 on Sunday, easily covering the NBA basketball betting moneyline as a 9.5-point home favorite as David Lee led the way with a double-double of 22 and 16 rebounds while Wilson Chandler added 23 points in the win.

Here is a look at the key trends for tonight’s contest

  • Bobcats are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 road games.
  • Knicks are 5-11 ATS in their last 16 games as a home favorite.
  • Bobcats are 5-0 ATS in the last 5 meetings.
  • Bobcats are 7-2 ATS in the last 9 meetings in New York.
  • Over is 5-2 in the last 7 meetings in New York.
  • Under is 5-2 in the last 7 meetings.

Analysis: I know New York is playing very solid basketball at the moment, but I’m shocked that they are favored over a Charlotte team that has won three consecutive games themselves and has a better record than the Knicks coming into this matchup.

I think tonight’s matchup is actually a lock for the Bobcats and their backers as Charlotte has gone a terrific 6-1 ATS in their last seven road games while New York has managed to go just 5-11 ATS in their last 16 games as a home favorite.

The Bobcats have also gone a spotless 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings against the Knicks and an impressive 7-2 ATS in the last nine games in New York.

Charlotte has held its opponents under 100 points in four of its last five wins and should be able to slow down the Knicks and their up-tempo offense long enough to walk away with their third straight road win tonight.

Again, maybe it’s me, but I’m shocked the Bobcats are getting points despite their fine play recently and history of handling the Knicks no matter where they play.

Take the Bobcats to win and cover the NBA moneyline in this lock pick.
