Nationals vs Braves – Baseball Betting Odds
September 15, 2010
In the midst of a tight race in the NL East, the Atlanta Braves have very little margin for error, and will try take care of business in Tuesday night’s baseball betting odds. But against a tough Washington Nationals team, should they be your pick?
Washington Nationals (60-84 SU, 74-70 R/L, 64-75-5 O/U) at Atlanta Braves (83-62 SU, 75-70 R/L, 69-68-8 O/U)
Tuesday, September 14: 7:10 p.m.
Baseball Betting Odds:
Washington: +1 ½, -115, +190
(Livan Hernandez-R)
Atlanta: -1 ½, -105, -230
(Jair Jurrjens-R)
With Philadelphia now holding a one game lead in the division, the Braves will send one of the best pitchers- Jair Jurrjens- to the bump, to try to get them a big win.
If you look at Jurrjens raw numbers, he might not jump out at you. After all, his record stands at just 7-5 on the season. However, what baseball bettors have got to remember is that he struggled immensely in the early part of the season, while shaking off a handful of injuries. Of late Jurrjens has been good, going 2-1 in his last three starts. However that loss was an embarrassing one in his last outing, where he gave up seven earned runs in just 3.2 innings. Simply put, Jurrjens will need to be better Tuesday night.

Like Jurrjens, Washington starter Livan Hernandez has been excellent this year, but struggled of late. In 2010, Herandez’s nine wins and 3.82 ERA but that only tells half the story. Because the truth is, as good as his numbers may tell you he’s been, Hernandez hasn’t done much of late. In his last seven starts, Hernandez’s record stands at just 1-4, with his ERA jumping from the 3.03 it was on August 7 to where it is now. The one solace baseball betting fans can take, is that he’s actually been pretty good against Atlanta this season. In his last start against the Braves he pitched seven innings and gave up just two runs.
Don’t be fooled though. Hernandez is now 35-years-old, and having thrown 186 innings coming into this one, he’s wearing down. Because of it, take the Braves in the baseball betting odds.
Atlanta comes into this matchup with the much better lineup top to bottom. In the front, Martin Prado (.313 batting average) and Omar Infante (.343 batting average in limited plate appearances) lead the charge, with Jason Heyward and Brian McCann (combined 37 home runs), driving them in. This is one of baseball’s most dangerous offenses, as on the season their combined .261 average is 12th in the majors.
With playoff fever in the air, the Braves won’t fall Tuesday night in Atlanta. Because of it, make them your Tuesday night wager in the baseball betting odds.
Simply put, the Braves are a veteran team, and know that every game from here on out is a “must win. While they certainly won’t win them all, they won’t fall to the last place Nationals, who are simply looking to get their season over at this point.
Make Atlanta your play in the Tuesday baseball betting odds.
The Pick: Atlanta Run Line (-1 ½, -105)
