Now that Bayne has become an instant Sprint Cup betting star, that doesn’t mean he is going to be moving out of the "minors" and into the big-time, full-time. In fact, he has reiterated his intention to pursue the Nationwide championship. Of course, he will also run a part-time schedule in Cup racing, with 18 events under the Wood Brothers. His Nationwide ride is with Roush Fenway Racing, and he ran tenth in the first race of the year, the Drive4 COPD 300.

Bayne has never won a Nationwide race in 51 starts. But he has finished in the top ten 14 times. Only 20 years old, he was regarded as a driver with a big future, and got quite a bit of attention, for example, from Speed Channel during Speed Weeks, but his future came sooner than a lot of people expected.

He is obviously a young man to keep an eye on, but just because he’s won Daytona, that doesn’t mean he is going to have a cakewalk in Nationwide. Remember that quite a few drivers cross over from Sprint Cup. Kyle Busch, the NASCAR Nationwide betting favorite at +200 for this race, was almost dominant over the course of the events he ran last year, winning 13 times in 29 starts. Brad Keselowski, at +500, was the series champion in 2010, as he was in the top ten in 29 of 35 attempts (with six wins).

Kevin Harvick, who was maybe the most consistent driver in the Sprint Cup last year, ran 29 races last year and was in the top five 17 times. He is +400 in NASCAR nationwide betting for this week’s race. Elliot Sadler has committed himself to running in this series full-time, so he’ll be dangerous. Carl Edwards is formidable, to say the least. He made it to the Chase for the Cup last year and won the last two races of the season. He was second in the Nationwide series in 2010 and just got done finishing as the runner-up to Bayne at Daytona. He is +400 in the NASCAR Nationwide betting odds.

The young driver everybody thought might bust out this year, at least until Bayne came along, was Joey Logano, who had mishaps galore at Daytona last week and finished 21st in the 500. He was 8th in Nationwide points last year, one spot behind Bayne. Now he’s behind Bayne again, in a manner of speaking, though he is +500 to win this week.

So young Bayne is not at the top of the list of favorites in NASCAR Nationwide betting, but hey, one win does not a career make, no matter how big that win was.
