NASCAR – Do big names pay big dividends at Bristol?

March 19, 2009

NASCAR betting fans and drivers alike have had a look to recuperate and gather their thoughts, as one of the most exciting races of the season is around the corner, this Sunday at Bristol. Fans lovingly know this weekend as “short track madness,” due to the fact that it’s right in the middle of March Madness, and quite frankly—the races here tend to be wild! Short track racing is, of course, characterized by plenty of lead changes, air tight racing conditions for drivers, and the always prevalent threat of a massive wreck.

Those evaluating NASCAR odds when the tour comes to Bristol tend to have two theories about the track. Idea number one is that the safest driver is the best bet, because he can manage to avoid all of the commotion, stay on the lead lap and often steal a victory. This is supported by the fact that Jeff Burton and Matt Kenseth have both been winners in the past five races. While Burton hasn’t had the best start, there is certainly great value on NASCAR odds in betting Matt Kenseth. The No. 17 car already has two victories this season, and tends to heat up around this time of year. The ultra-safe driver averages roughly an eighth-place finish in the month of March, and should be a contender all day long at Bristol on Sunday.

On the other side of the coin, some suggest that those who race along with the nature of the track will be most successful. These NASCAR betting sharps are of the belief that the only way to win a race on a short, fast track, is to be aggressive and push through any danger and caution by simply being at the front of the pack. Supporting this theory is a pair of racers who make up for three of the past five checkered flags at Bristol. The first is Carl Edwards, who is the proud owner of two of said flags, and is also one of the most aggressive drivers on the NASCAR Sprint Cup circuit. Nobody drives harder than Edwards, so much so that he has already blown an engine this week in his pursuit of another win! Rounding out the past five winners is his new arch-rival, Kyle Busch. They don’t call him “Rowdy,” for nothing! A prelude to Rowdy Burns, one of the lead characters in the Tom Cruise classic Days of Thunder, this “Rowdy” stays true to his namesake, laying it all on the line to gain a victory every week. He too has enjoyed a hot start, with a victory in his hometown of Las Vegas, and there’s no reason to think that he’ll slow down this week!
