NASCAR Betting- Toyota/Save Mart 350
June 18, 2010
NASCAR hits the road running this weekend as the Sprint Cup series swings to an infamous road course, the Infineon Raceway, for the Toyota/Save Mart 350.
Here’s a look at the oddsmakers’ favorites to run up front this weekend:
Tony Stewart (+450)
Stewart is the odds-on NASCAR betting favorite to win at Sonoma this weekend. He has plenty of road experience coming from Indy Car competitions and has translated that success into Stock Car racing.
He has an average finish of 9.27 at Infineon Raceway with one pole, two wins, and seven Top-10 showing in his 11 starts.
This season, Smoke is currently sitting 11th in the Chase for the Cup standings, coming off a fifth-place finish at Michigan last weekend. The No. 14 Chevrolet has placed inside the Top 5 in three of his last four races while leading just one lap in that span.
His last run at Sonoma produced a second-place showing in which Stewart led 11 laps.
Jeff Gordon (+500)
The veteran driver is no stranger to the twists and turns of Infineon Raceway. In his 17 starts there, Gordon has visited Victory Lane five times, finished inside the Top 10 13 times, and boasts an average finish of 9.3. He’s placed inside the Top 10 in four straight races including a win here in 2006.
Gordon currently sits seventh in the points standings after finishing fourth at Michigan last Sunday. The No. 24 team has run inside the Top 10 in four of its last seven races but is still after its first win of 2010.
Kyle Busch (+500)
The younger Busch brother fell off the pace a bit with a 20th-place showing at Michigan last weekend, keeping him in second in the points – 22 points back of leader Kevin Harvick.
That finish was just the second time Busch has wound up outside of the Top 10 in his last 10 races. At Sonoma, the No. 18 Toyota has been up and down. Busch won the Toyota/Save Mart 350 back in 2008 but has also finished as far back as 40th, leading to an average finish of 16.4.
His last run at the road course produced a 22nd-place showing after starting the race in the front row.
Juan Pablo Montoya (+800)
NASCAR’s resident road expert uses his skill set from CART and Formula 1 when taking the track at Sonoma. Montoya won his first race at Infineon Raceway back in 2007. Since then he’s finished sixth in back-to-back years heading into this weekend’s event.
Montoya is sitting 20th in the points standings and is coming off a 13th-place showing at Michigan last Sunday. He’s posted seven Top 10s and four Top 5s in 2010 but has yet to taste the champagne in Victory Lane.
Marcos Ambrose (+800)
The Aussie driver will rely on his experience from V8 Supercars, a touring Australian racing promotion, at Sonoma this Sunday. Ambrose finished third at last year’s Toyota/Save Mart 350 and placed 42nd in 2007 after starting in seventh but blowing his transmission.
He’s sitting 30th in the Sprint Cup points standings with little to no chance of making a run at the Chase. He’s finished inside the Top 10 in only one race this season, at Richmond back in May. However, on the road courses, Ambrose holds a ton of NASCAR wagering value.
He’s placed second and third in his last two trips to Watkins Glen – NASCAR’s other road course – and should be in contention this weekend.
