NASCAR betting – Can Clint clinch at California

February 22, 2009

NASCAR betting experts will get another, and hopefully much longer, taste of stock car racing this weekend. Last weekend’s Daytona 500 was shortened by the rain, numerous wrecks, and was ultimately captured by veteran Matt Kenseth.

California is a much different animal than Daytona however. The Great American Race favors very patient drivers such as Matt Kenseth and Jeff Gordon, as the rough track conditions and steep banking require a lot of precision and solid guidance from the pit crew. At California however, a flat, fast track, the most aggressive driver who is take chances is often the one who takes home the checkered flag.

With that in mind, let’s look at a handful of ‘do-or-die’ drivers who will be great NASCAR betting choices this weekend in the Sprint Cup race:

Clint Bowyer

Bowyer may be one of the most underrated drivers in NASCAR, but also one of the most hard-working. Bowyer is the type of aggressive driver that is successful at Fontana, and will be very familiar with the conditions this weekend as well, since he tends to run in the Camping World Truck Series and the Nationwide Series too. He has an average finish of 12th at California, but that just might improve this weekend.

Carl Edwards

This track is made for Edwards–short, flat, and built for aggression. ‘Concrete Carl’ has plenty of success at Fontana already, winning last year’s race to wrap up the year, and there’s no reason why he won’t continue his success here, barring a wreck.

Mark Martin

Is there any driver more motivated than Mark Martin this year? In addition, is there any driver with more support from fans and teammates than Martin in 2008-09? The veteran racer has had plenty of success at Fontana in the past, and not to mention at Las Vegas, next week’s track, as well. Double M is adaptable at any track, and sports betting sharps shouldn’t have any reservations about choosing him on race day.

Tony Stewart

The Stewart-Haas machines have looked tremendous thus far, and this is exactly the kind of track that a dedicated, aggressive driver such as Tony Stewart can excel on. What would feel better for him than to take home the checkered flag in just his second race as a team owner and driver? Take that Jack Roush!

Kyle Busch

An unfortunate crash took Busch out of the race last week, but the NASCAR betting world took notice. This kid was no fluke last season. Nobody races harder to the finish than the boy wonder, and he will feel right at home in California this weekend.
