NASCAR Betting – Back After it at Bristol
March 17, 2009
Racing with a purpose at Bristol
NASCAR betting fans have enjoyed a week away from the track, giving them a chance to collect their thoughts, study up and analyze NASCAR odds for the upcoming race.
For a handful of drivers however, it hasn’t been a week of rest, but rather one of intense preparation both in and out of the stock car. To say the least, the current economic hardship has thrown NASCAR for a loop, and has had a tremendous effect on all drivers, be it positive or negative. For sports betting sharps, it has gone one of two ways as well: Either they have cashed in on the underdog victories and placements, or they are frustrated that the usual suspects haven’t always been atop the leader board when the checkered flag has dropped each week!
The 2009 season has been so wacky that it has left three established drivers fighting for the right to start every race, and three relative newcomers with a chance to crack the Top 35 and not worry about qualifying every week!
Let’s take a look at three motivated NASCAR drivers this week, who could give your NASCAR betting card a nice underdog boost.
Mark Martin
Plenty of engine and car misfortune has placed NASCAR’s elder statesman on the cusp of falling out of the Top 35. Assuming he gets a good car, this could be a great turnaround week for Martin. Bristol is all about staying safe, and nobody is safer, or more respected on the track than the No. 5 car.
Joey Logano
I suppose Joey Logano falls into both the “established driver” (due to the team he’s on) and “relative newcomer” (since he’s 18-years old) category. Nonetheless, things haven’t gone quite as expected for the highly-touted rookie. However, those expectations may have been too high, as Greg Zippadelli’s squad is still getting used to Logano’s driving style, and trying to build something other than a Tony Stewart car. Once they get it figured out, Logano can contend, but this may not be his week.
Ryan Newman
Perhaps the smartest driver in the Sprint Cup series, Newman heads into a thinking man’s track—something NASCAR betting sharps will like when they take a peak at the NASCAR lines this week. Newman is getting accustomed to a new race team, a new crew and a new car, so naturally things have gone slowly for him thus far. However, in terms of intelligence and raw skill, Newman is one of the best, and this could be his week to break out.
