NASCAR Betting – Aaron’s 499 Preview
April 15, 2011
NASCAR betting hits one of the trickiest tracks to predict when the Sprint Cup Series races at famed Talladega this Sunday. The massive superspeedway is well known for the “Big One”, a wreck that can wipe your NASCAR wagers clean off the board.
Here are some drivers to watch at the Aaron’s 499 this weekend:
Kevin Harvick +600
Oddsmakers can sometimes be left scratching their heads when it comes to the NASCAR betting odds for Talladega. The usual favorites aren’t among the chalk this weekend and Harvick is the odds-on favorite after winning last year’s Aaron’s 499, proving he can avoid the infamous “Big One”.
Harvick has run well at the 2.66-mile tri-oval, finishing second there in the fall and boasting five Top-5 performances in his 20 starts. He’s one of the few drivers who look forward to Talladega, despite his car suffering engine failure in the first restrictor-plate race of the year at Daytona in February.
Kyle Busch +800
It takes steel nerves and a touch of crazy to succeed at Talladega – and that description fits the younger Busch brother to a tee. Kyle Busch is a former winner there, taking the checkered flag at the Aaron’s 499 in 2008. He finished ninth at last year’s spring race and has led a career 131 laps at Talladega.
He will get a ton of track time with his participation in the Nationwide and Truck Series events this weekend. Busch is sitting second in the points heading into Sunday’s race.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. +900
In part due to his overwhelming popularity with NASCAR fans and bettors, Earnhardt Jr.’s odds generally don’t hold much value. However, the restrictor-plate specialist is always among the notables when heading to the superspeedways.
Earnhardt Jr. has five career victories at Talladega and boasts an average finish of 15.1. He is showing flashes of his former self, finishing ninth at Texas last weekend and second at Martinsville two weeks ago. That push has him in sixth place in the Sprint Cup standings.
Clint Bowyer +1,200
Bowyer only has 10 career starts at Talladega, but he has made the most of those races. He won on the track last fall and has four Top-10 performances on the monster tri-oval in a short time.
Bowyer is also coming off a stellar day at Texas last Saturday, finishing second at the Samsung Mobile 500 for his third Top-10 showing in a row. He currently sits 12th in the points and ran well at the preliminary races at Daytona, showing his chops in restrictor-plate events.
