My Super Bowl 44 Predictions for the Colts vs Saints

February 4, 2010

If you look around the Internet, there is no shortage of super bowl predictions. It is as much of a pastime as watching the game itself. So who will win the February 7th matchup in Miami. Stay tuned and find out.

The Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints meet in a Super Bowl 44 matchup that has been anticipated since the first third of the NFL season. Both teams threatened to finish the regular season perfect and both stumbled a bit toward the end. Both teams have high octane Offenses and both had the luxury of resting their players down the stretch.

When making super bowl predictions, it is important to examine all factors in the makeup of the combatants. In a game between two similarly successful teams, it is likely the X-factors that will determine the outcome of the game. What are the intangibles and who has the benefit of experience, balance and game changing weapons?

The Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints both boast top tier Offenses that have carried them to this point. Both teams have All-Pro Quarterbacks and insanely deep receiving corps. It would be difficult to make super bowl predictions based on the passing games.

Where one team has an advantage is in the running game. While the Colts are forced to rely on their average rushers, the Saints posses a rushing attack that has proven that they can dominate and even take over a game. Consider everything when making your super bowl prediction.

On Defense, the Indianapolis Colts have flown under the radar all season. A cohesive unit, they are a lot better than most give them credit for. However, the Colts do have some holes and the potential loss of Dwight Freeney for this Sunday’s game makes them seem even more vulnerable.

The Saints Defense has been playing at a high level most of the year. They are an opportunistic bunch that creates game changing turnovers. All one has to do is look at what they did to the potent Minnesota Offense a couple of weeks ago.

Defense will probably win this game. It seems easier to trust Defensive Coordinator Greg Williams and his Saintsstaff rather than trust a banged up Dwight Freeney led Indianapolis Defensive Squad.
