MWC Power Poll – BYU and TCU Carry the Torch

September 15, 2009

Even though the Mountain West may end up having a banner year if BYU and TCU can keep winning, the rest of the conference has had an awful ATS season. This week’s MWC power poll shows you how BetOnline stacks up the teams…

1. BYU Cougars (2-0 ATS, 2-0 SU) (LW: 1) – The Cougs have ultimately put themselves in a position where they can run the table and play for the National Championship if two other BCS conference teams don’t go undefeated. The biggest test left on the slate may be this week against a Florida State team that looked miserable last week against a poor Jacksonville State squad. Still, the task won’t be an easy one.

Up Next: Home vs. Florida State (-7)

2: TCU Horned Frogs (1-0 ATS, 1-0 SU) (LW: 5) – A 16-point victory against Virginia in Charlottesville really shouldn’t have come as much of a surprise. This week’s game against Texas State shouldn’t be much of a test either, but the schedule gets significantly harder after that. Still, the October 24 th showdown at BYU is starting to look like a big time bout.

Up Next: Home vs. Texas State (OTB)

3. UNLV Runnin’ Rebels (1-0 ATS, 1-1 SU) (LW: 4) – The Rebels had to feel like they were in a prime position to pick up a big upset of Oregon State when they took a 21-20 lead with 4:16 to play. Still, QB Mike Clausen’s comeback came up short, as the Beavers booted a field goal with just 0:07 to play to preserve the win. Still, UNLV bettors got to celebrate the ATS victory.

Up Next: Home vs. Hawaii (-7)

4. Wyoming Cowboys (1-0 ATS, 1-1 SU) (LW: 6) – For a couple quarters, the Cowboys stuck around with the mighty Longhorns, but eventually, attrition took its toll and Wyoming ended up losing by a comfortable margin. Still, the ‘Boys were never behind the college football betting line. This week’s game against Colorado probably won’t be for the faint of heart.

Up Next: Away @ Colorado (+7)

5. Colorado State Rams (0-1 ATS, 2-0 SU) (LW: 2) – Weber State came awfully close to shocking the Rams in their home debut. They allowed Weber to rack up 316 yards for the game, and they put up 20 points in a miserable second quarter. If not for a touchdown pass with 8:31 to play, Colorado State would’ve ended up losing. What does this say about Colorado, who lost to this CSU team two weeks ago?

Up Next: Home vs. Nevada (+3)

6. Air Force Falcons (0-1 ATS, 1-1 SU) (LW: 3) – Air Force’s rushing attack had a great time of it against Minnesota, but there was no excuse for allowing 17 points in the fourth quarter in Minnesota. It could’ve been a great victory for the powerful MWC. Their first Mountain West game of the season is on deck this week.

Up Next: Away @ New Mexico (-17.5)

And the rest…

7. Utah Utes (0-2 ATS, 2-0 SU) (LW: 7)

8. New Mexico Lobos (0-2 ATS, 0-2 SU) (LW: 8)

9. San Diego State Aztecs (0-2 ATS, 0-2 SU) (LW: 9)
