Multi-Game Free Picks – NFL Week 8 Predictions

October 28, 2010

Last week something was missing from the NFL and I think it was compelling games. It was due in large part to the Indianapolis Colts, Houston Texans, the New York Jets and even the sometimes-exciting Detroit Lions all on byes.

Compare that to week six when the Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals, Arizona Cardinals and the Carolina Panthers all had the week off, the games were good.

Let’s have a look at how the teams coming off a bye will do this weekend as we make some NFL betting week 8 predictions for the Colts, Texans, Jets and even the Lions.

Washington Redskins +3

Game Total 44½

Detroit Lions -3

The Lions are surprise favorites in this game but most of that has to do with the return of quarterback Matt Stafford. It will be interesting to see if Stafford will show rust from so much time out of action. The Lions will be facing a Redskins team that bends but doesn’t break.

The ‘Skins rank second to last in offensive yards allow but they are 10th in points allowed. Considering Washington has beat the Cowboys, Eagles, Packers and Bears and the combined record of the team that beat them is 10-7; I like the Skins to win this game straight up.

Green Bay Packers +6

Game Total 42½

New York Jets -6

The Green Bay Packers were tabbed as the best team in the NFC but after injuries decimated them on both sides of the ball, they are just 4-3 and people were looking for other teams to put their Super Bowl money behind. However, unlike the rest of the floundering NFC teams, injuries heal.

The Packers will get most of their starters back before the playoffs begin. They are still a solid bet to win the NFC. That being said, the Jets are one of the top teams in the AFC and coming off a bye week, they’ll be well rested.

The Jets should win this game by a touchdown coving the -6 point spread.

Houston Texans +6

Game Total 49½

Indianapolis Colts -6

The Houston Texans ran all over the Colts in the opening game of the season beating the Colts 34-24. Since the loss, the Colts won four of their past five games with Peyton Manning having another Peyton Manning type season.

Even with Manning playing well, it’s hard to feel the same confidence in the 2010 squad as we did in the 2009 squad. This year the Colts are dealing with injuries to their defense and their receiving core. They are on their third string safety and Dallas Clark suffered a rare season ending wrist injury.

The Texans are still horrible against the pass but with Manning running out of offensive weapons, he likely doesn’t have enough to keep up with Houston. The Texans win straight up over the Colts for the second time this season.
