Mrs Payton Picks Between Boston and Cleveland with Husband Gary The Glove

May 13, 2010

You were probably expecting me to dissect everything that LeBron did wrong in Game 5. I was more concerned with the cosmic balance of “Game 5” as a whole being restored to normal after LeBron decimated Detroit in his definitive “I’M HEEERRRRRREEE” statement game. I don’t know whether it’s better to defend any superstar having a rough game, or hammer The King with ridicule for such a sordid performance.

What I will tell you is that Cleveland’s entire team is to blame. I’m well aware that everything runs through LeBron, especially since it appears he’s coaching the team in his spare time. It shouldn’t matter that LeBron scores 15-points when you’re in such an important and deciding situation. The rest of the team forgot to show up too.

Shaquille O’Neal tried to put the team on his back and ended the game with 21-point and only four boards, but the rest of Cleveland was a mess. Antawn Jamison and Mo Williams are supposed to be the backup scorers here, right? Then why did they combine for just 18-points?

Of course, you can’t discount Boston’s fantastic performance in that game either. All five starters scored in double-digits, with the Three Party totaling 64-points and Rondo adding another sterling game with 16 points of his own, along with 7 assists. To put it mildly, the Celtics whipped back some cracked knuckles and delivered a knockout blow to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Now Cleveland stands on the verge of what will be called a stunning upset series loss to advance Boston to the Eastern Conference Finals. Blame LeBron all you want, but guys like Jamison and Williams are at as much fault for the dire situation as The King is.

Don’t just take it from me. Gary Payton, joined by Mrs. Payton, doles out his fresh opinion of this series below. Actually, maybe it’s Gary joining Mrs. Payton. After all, from the looks of things, Monique is taking things over. Without further adieu, here’s “Mrs. Payton’s Corner, with special guest star Gary Payton”!:

The Glove ad Mrs. Payton make two great points in this video. He compares the Boston Celtics to a younger version of the San Antonio Spurs, which highlights the C’s veteran experience as the backbone of their success.

What he also says is that if LeBron doesn’t get going, the rest of the team loses its way and that’s an understatement. They don’t just lose their way, they get deflated, defeated and they flat out give up. That’s not championship tenacity in the least, which is something Boston is proving to have in spades.

We all may bow to The King, but Mrs. Payton’s standing by the Boston Three Party. With those aforementioned 64-points in Game 5, it’s hard not to see her reasoning. This late in the game, the NBA betting trend is always to back the veterans and Monique once again delivers the goods by standing by KG, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen.

LeBron is the next young superstar to go home early in a spring playoff season that has sent Alexander Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby packing early. At least they can all keep each other company.
