Monmouth Park Horse Betting
June 11, 2010
Racing returns to the Jersey Shore on Friday, with an eleven race card at Monmouth Park.
There are plenty of big fields and vulnerable favorites that should give you plenty of opportunities to pad your bankroll as we get ready to head into the weekend of Horse racing betting action.
The play of the day is a $40,000 maiden claiming race on the turf going 1 1/16 miles for fillies and mares, three year olds and upward.
It is a wide open race, and we will go with the well bred and lightly raced Tropical Sunset, who is 5/1 on the morning line.
The filly is adding blinkers and making her first start for trainer Gregory Sacco. If we get her or my second choice Blazing Sasha home first, we should catch a generous exacta payoff.
The late Pick 3 play is from Belmont Park, and we can get off to a good start if we can get longshot Dubai Echo home first in the opening leg of the three race sequence.
Today’s Play of the Day from Monmouth Park:
MTH Race 6 Md $40,000 (3:20 ET)
- #3 Tropical Sunset 5/1
- #5 Blazing Sasha 4/1
- #9 Taste 5/2
- #6 Outward Appearance 6/1
Analysis: #3 Tropical Sunset was bumped at the start and never got untracked on dirt last out in her first go at a route. She was off poorly in her debut as well, making up some ground late to finish a decent fourth. The blinkers go on which may help with her break and she is back on turf. She is bred to like it, out of a Dynaformer mare that has produced four turf winners including stakes winner Hour of Justice ($484K).
#5 Blazing Sasha got a break after failing to fire in her last two starts. She returns off nearly a three month break and lands with Servis. This gal does have a couple of runner up finishes on the turf and she also has an appealing pedigree. She has four sibs that have won on the lawn including stakes winner Blazing Fury ($514K).
Horse Racing Wagering
WIN: #3 to win at 3/1 or better.
EX: 3,5 / 3,5,6,9
TRI: 3,5 / 3,5,6,9 / 2,3,5,6,7,9
Today’s Pick 3 Play from Belmont Park:
Starting in Race 7: $1: 2,3,5 / 1,5 / 1,2,3,8 = $24
BEL Race 7 OClm $35,000N1X (4:12 ET)
#2 Dubai Echo, #3 Mission Approved, #5 Codoy
#2 Dubai Echo failed to fire last out at Colonial Downs at 4/5 after a decent effort two back at Keeneland where the gelding had a tough trip and was beaten just 1 3/4 lengths for the top spot in a sixth place finish. This guy can handle the distance and I have enough confidence in the Motion barn that we could see a bounce back here at a decent price.
#3 Mission Approved was a game winner last out for a $40K tag, his fifth career win on turf. That effort came off a nine month layoff. This guy is a graded stakes winner on turf and offered right back for a tag again today, which does not exactly look like a good sign, but Ramon sees fit to ride and this is not a real tough spot.
BEL Race 8 OClm $50,000N2X (4:45 ET)
#1 Witchy Meeting / #1a Diamond Dina, #5 Consequence
#1 Witchy Meeting invades from the left coast and makes her turf debut here, making her a tough read, but the fact she lands with Dutrow is enough to give her a good look. Her entrymate #1a Diamond Dina actually is more attractive, coming off a sharp win for a $35K tag. She is a 10 time winner on turf and seems to run well at any distance on the surface.
#5 Consequence was beaten just a head two back and regressed last out catching ground labeled as good at Churchill Downs. She makes her third start of her current form cycle and has mixed it up versus tougher than she faces here.
BEL Race 9 Clm $20,000B (5:17 ET)
#1 Honorable Truth / #1a Diva in Training, #8 Lorraine in Spain, #2 Mollyisintheclouds, #3 Boxitup
#1 Honorable Truth makes her first start since last September and lands with the RRod barn that has been on fire. The mare ran into repeat winners in three of her last four starts before hitting the bench. She is just 1 for 7 on turf but it is tough to toss anything this barn is sending out.
Entrymate #1a Diva in Training also has Edgar listed to rider, so only one will go. The filly was a sharp winner on dirt two back against $10K non winners of two, then regressed last out against open $16K foes. She does have one win on turf.
Price Plays From Belmont Park:
These are price plays to watch today. A small win-place wager is in order or if your pockets are deep enough, use these runners in your trifecta and Pick 3 and Pick 4 wagers. One or two of these could be the difference between a regular day at the track and hitting the IRS window with a signer.
R2: #1 Merensky Reef / #1a High Seas 8/1
R5: #3 Fortunate Run 12/1
R7: 32 Dubai Echo 8/1
Good luck padding your bankroll today!
