Monday Night NFL Props – Who Will Score First Touchdown in Falcons-Saints Game?
December 27, 2010
People who bet the Monday night NFL props know that one of the more popular propositions involves who is going to score the first touchdown in a game, and in the contest between the New Orleans Saints and the Atlanta Falcons, it is an especially interesting choice.
The game begins at 8:30 PM ET on Monday at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, and in the NFL betting odds, the Falcons are a 2.5-point favorite, with the over-under listed at 48.5 points. As far as the actual Monday night NFL prop is concerned, Atlanta running back Michael Turner is the favorite at +350.

In this game, the guy who has scored the most touchdowns is Michael Turner (+350 in the Monday night NFL prop), who has eleven on the season.
Turner has carried the ball 300 times on the season, which makes him a workhorse, and Jacob Snelling, who ran for 129 yards against the Cardinals in Week 2, is getting less and less of the workload, to the point where he has carried the ball just 25 times for 62 yards in the last seven games he’s played.
That doesn’t mean he hasn’t been active in catching the football; in fact, he has two TD receptions in his last four games. But at +1200, I don’t know that he represents real possibilities in this Monday night NFL prop.
One of the guys I would consider to be a darkhorse here may not even make the field on Monday night. Chris Ivory, the undrafted rookie, who has thrived in his role after all the injuries that have plagued the Saints’ backfield, did not play last week against Baltimore with a hamstring problem and said he felt "that grabbing feeling" in practice this past week when he tried to open up on it. Can it get loose?
One of the reasons I kind of liked Ivory is because he has less than half the carries as Turner, yet has scored five times, and all of those TD’s have come in the last three games he’s played. Plus, Atlanta will most likely be defending the pass first and the run second, which would make things more open for him. Ivory would be part of the "Field" bet in this Monday night NFL prop, priced at +400.
There is little question as to who Matt Ryan’s favorite receiver is. Sure, tight end Tony Gonzalez (+900) is headed to the Hall of Fame, but Roddy White has more catches than anyone else in the league. White has 106 receptions, and eight of them have resulted in touchdowns. He’s had one score in the last four games.
White has rapidly become one of those "look at me" players, with intentionally controversial tweets on his Twitter page, one of which made a reference to the city as it was devastated by Hurricane Katrina, I guess. yeah, the Saints will be taking aim at him after he called them the "Aints" in another tweet. White is +550 in the Monday night NFL prop.
Drew Brees doesn’t necessarily have a favorite receiver, as he has thrown seven TD passes to Marques Colston and eight to Lance Moore. Colston has just gone over the 100-mark in receiving yards and is priced at +550 in the Monday night NFL prop, and has had five scores in his last seven games.
Moore caught two TD passes against Atlanta in the first meeting between these two, and had another one last week against Baltimore. he;s a guy who is a good short-range outlet for Brees, not to mention someone who can run with it once he’s caught it. he’s caught 149 passes the last three seasons, and 20 of them have gone for scores.
He’s also averaging ten yards a pop on punt returns, when he is employed in that role. He’s never returned one for a TD, but I guess there can be a first time for everything. Regardless, at +1000 in the Monday night NFL prop, perhaps he’s worth a play.
