For the Jets, expectations are a mile-high, as this team welcomes back the top defense in NFL last season. And as good as it was, they just got a whole lot better in the last week.
Of course we’re talking about the signing of cornerback Darrelle Revis, who- after holding out in fall camp- is back, and ready to put on the pads. Revis was fifth in the NFL interceptions in 2009, and a major reason that the Jets ranked No. 1 in pass defense in the league (153.7 yards/game). Oh, and by the way, they also ranked No. 1 in scoring defense (14.8 points per game) and total defense (252 yards/game). Not a bad debut for head coach Rex Ryan.
However, as good as that defense is, the offense will still make anyone who takes the Jets as their NFL Betting pick nervous. This team seemed to be able to run the ball at will last year (again, No. 1 in the NFL), but what everything will ultimately come down to, is whether they’re able to pass it as well. No player in the National Football League may be more important that quarterback Mark Sanchez, who absolutely, positively must be better than his 12 touchdown, 20 interception rookie campaign.
As for Baltimore, they too believe that they’ve got a Super Bowl winning team. And unlike in years past, in Monday’s NFL Betting picks, it’ll start on offense.
Joe Flacco is back to man the quarterback position, as he’s now heading into his third year under center. Flacco led the Ravens to a wild card berth in last year’s playoffs, before they were unceremoniously dumped by Indianapolis in the second round. However, he has no excuses not to improve his passing numbers this season, as his receiving corps has been re-vamped. Baltimore added Anquan Boldin (84 catches a year ago in Arizona) and T.J. Houshmandzadeh (79 catches in Seattle) to the mix. And oh, by the way, they’ve also got 1,300 yard rusher Ray Rice back as well.
For any NFL Betting fan, this is the game of the weekend. Two Super Bowl contenders and a possible AFC Championship Game preview. So in the end, who’ve you got? Take the Ravens on the road.
We know the Jets are at home, and it’s tough to wager against them. But at the end of the day, these aren’t your father’s Baltimore Ravens either.
While this was an organization whose backbone was on defense for years, this offense is now as balanced as any in the league. Flacco has a glut of receivers to throw the ball to, and the durable Rice making plays out of the backfield.
The Jets on the other hand, we know they’ll be really good. But until Mark Sanchez proves himself, it’s hard to see them becoming great.
When it comes to Monday night’s NFL Betting, take the Ravens, on the road, with a win straight up.
