Monday Night Football – Rams and Giants Look For First Win

September 21, 2011

Thanks to the bettor-friendly management at BetOnline, gridiron gamblers that are looking to strike paydirt on the quickly approaching Week 2 Monday Night Football matchup between the St. Louis Rams and New York Giants are in luck!

That’s right gridiron gamblers, thanks to my expert NFL betting breakdown and analysis on Monday’s showdown at MetLife Stadium, you’ll get the insight you’ll need in order to make an wise wager on this pairing of winless teams.

NFL Odds
New York Giants -6
Over/Under 43

St. Louis Rams (0-1 SU, 0-1 ATS, 1-0 O/U)
Despite taking a 31-13 home loss to Philadelphia on the chin in Week 1, the Rams actually looked a lot better than the final score would indicate.

After giving up 14 points in the first quarter, St. Louis held the explosive Eagles mostly in check in limiting the Birds to 17 points over the final three quarters.

The problem for the Rams was that they could manage no better than three points in any period over the final three quarters of the contest after scoring a touchdown in the opening quarter.

Young quarterback Sam Bradford completed just 17 of 30 passes for 188 yards, but had to play the final three quarters without dangerous starting running back Steven Jackson after the perennial Pro Bowler picked up 56 rushing yards on just two carries, including an impressive 47-yard scamper in the first quarter. St. Louis also lost Danny "Don’t Call Me Wes Welker" Amendoula, maybe for the whole season.

St. Louis will also have to address their run defense coming into this matchup after allowing Philadelphia to roll up a whopping 237 rushing yards on just 31 carries.

New York Giants (0-1 SU, 0-1 ATS, 1-0 O/U)
New York is really banged-up after losing several key players before the start of the regular season and it showed in their 28-14 loss to Washington in Week 1. The G-Men failed to cover the NFL betting line as a 1.5-point road favorite. Eli Manning completed just 18 of 32 passes for 268 yards and one interception.

New York’s normally dominant ground game also came to a screeching halt with Ahmad Bradshaw rushing for 44 yards on 13 carries and Brandon Jacobs totaling 29 yards on just six carries.

Worst of all, the Giants allowed Rex Grossman to actually look like a starting NFL Quarterback by throwing for 305 yards with two TDs and no picks.

New York picked up four sacks in the narrow loss, but saw its own offensive line allow Manning to go down four times.

Analysis: This Week 2 matchup is going to be a tough battle for both teams that ends up being a lot closer than most people think, but I’ve got to believe that the semi-desperate Giants are at least going to secure the SU home win.

First and foremost, this game is a national Monday Night Football contest which should have the G-Men fired up for their home fans. Still, I suspect the Rams are going to bring their collective ‘A’ game even if they don’t get the SU or ATS win in this one.

The Giants have posted an impressive 4-1 ATS mark in their L/5 Monday Night Football games and have cashed in against the Rams in each of their last five meetings against their fellow NFC team.

The Favorite in this series is 5-2 ATS over the last seven meetings and I like the New York Giants to improve upon that mark by getting the solid SU home win and very narrow ATS payday!

Back the New York Giants NFL gridiron gamblers and you won’t go wrong!
