Monday Night Football Parlay Pick – Panthers vs. Cowboys
September 28, 2009
Cowboys to Get Home Win Tonight, Panthers to Cash In
After an absolutely rocky start, the struggling Carolina Panthers will be looking to record their first win of the season when they battle the Dallas Cowboys at Cowboys Stadium tonight at 8:30 PM ET.
After losing their regular season opener 38-10 to the visiting Philadelphia Eagles, in a pathetic display, the Panthers lost to the Atlanta Falcons 28-20 in Week 2, failing to cover the NFL betting odds for BetOnline NFL Sportsbook betting members as a 6-point road underdog while the game’s combined score played over the 43.5-point O/U total.
Running back, DeAngelo Williams rushed for 79 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries for Carolina, while Steve Smith caught eight passes for 131 yards and quarterback Jake Delhomme completed 25 of 41 passes for 308 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
The Cowboys will also be looking to bounce back from a loss as they fell to the New York Giants 33-31 as a 3-point home favorite in Week 2. The game’s 64 combined points played well over the 45-point O/U total.
Tony Romo completed just 13 of 29 passes for 127 yards with one touchdown, but also threw three costly interceptions for Dallas, while running back Marion Barber rushed for 124 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries.

Analysis: While I am extremely confident that the Dallas Cowboys are going to win this Monday night home matchup, I fully believe the Carolina Panthers are going to cover the spread in a losing effort.
Yes, I know the Panthers aren’t the same team they used to be – and that both Jake Delhomme and head coach John Fox are running out of time – but this is still a team that won a stellar, 12 games last season.
If the point spread for this contest were two points
Less in favor of Dallas, I’d consider taking the ‘Boys to cover as 6 or 6.5-point favorites, but it’s not, which is why I like the Panthers to cover the big spread here.
While the Panthers have gone just 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall and an identical 1-4 ATS in their last five games against NFC opponents, Carolina has also shown a pretty consistent ability to bounce back from a loss and cover the spread, going an impressive 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games following an SU loss and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games following an ATS loss.
While the Cowboys have gone a solid 6-2 ATS in their last eight games as a favorite and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games against NFC, it should be pointed out that the ‘Boys have gone a pitiful 0-4 ATS in their last four Monday night matchups. Another factor the Cowboys have working against them is the fact that the underdog in this series has gone 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 meetings.
In addition to taking the Panthers to cover the spread in a narrow loss, I also really like the Over for this game as it has played out in four of the last five meetings between these teams.
The Over has also gone 5-0 in Carolina’s last five games as an underdog and a scorching 9-1 in their last 10 games against NFC opponents.
The Over has also gone 4-0 in the Cowboys’ last four games overall and 7-2-1 in the Cowboys’ last 10 Monday games.
Take the Panthers and the Over to play out tonight BetOnline NFL sports betting members.
