Monday Night Football Odds are that the New York Jets, based on their play will make the playoffs this season. But they won’t be satisfied with a Wild Card – Rex Ryan and the boys want a division title. A win on Monday would give the Jets the tiebreaker and basically a two game lead in the AFC East.
The Jets offense had been clicking along before last week’s game against the Bengals, a game in which the offense didn’t need to be top notch in order to score the win. With Mark Sanchez taking an enormous leap this season and with the offense ( 18th best passing and 2nd best rushing) looking like one of the more balanced units in the NFL, the Jets will be a handful for any team they rest of the season.
Defensively, the Jets are 3rd in the NFL in total yards allowed. They are 12th against the pass (210.64 yards per game) and 4th against the run (86.27 yards per game). Tom Brady offers a totally different challenge however – it should be interesting.
The New England Patriots ridded themselves of arguably one of the most gifted receivers ever to play and still, they are NFL Odds leaders in the overall standings in the NFL. It is the offense again that has carried the Pats, with the defense occasionally showing up and making the big play (remember the Indy game?).
Tom Brady will keep being the man and his receiver will be made to look like Pro Bowlers as per usual. It has been the emergence of a running game behind BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Danny Woodhead that could be the difference for this team going forward. If the Pats can control the clock, confidently mix up their plays, New England has to be NFL Odds favorites to be playing into February.
The Patriots defense hasn’t killed them, but it hasn’t won them any games either. They currently rank a miserable 32nd versus the pass (288.45 yards per game) and 16th versus the run (110.64 yards per game). Their job this week will be to keep the game close and to let Mr. Brady do his thing.
Monday Night Football Odds Outlook:
The New York Jets are 9-1 SU in their last 10 games overall and are 5-0 SU in their last five on the road. The Jets are just 4-12 SU in their last 16 versus the Patriots and 2-6 SU in their last eight trips to New England.
The New England Patriots are 5-1 SU in their last six games overall. The Patriots are 5-0 SU in their last five at home but are just 2-3-1 ATS in their last six in Foxboro. New England is 12-4 SU in their last 16 against New York, and 2-4 ATS in their last six games versus the Jets. The Pats are 6-2 SU in their last eight home games versus the Jets but are just 4-10 ATS in their last 14 at home against New York.
The New York Jets have been squeaking out victories in the last month or so. They barely beat Cleveland and Detroit and they needed a last second touchdown to defeat the Houston Texans. That type of effort won’t nearly be enough to defeat the Patriots at home where they are 25-0 in games that Tom Brady has started. The Jets are good, but not good enough to go into the toughest road Stadium in the NFL and pull the upset. I like Jets road magic to end on Monday night and the Pats to cover.
Monday Night Football Odds Pick: New England Patriots -3
