Monday Night Football Odds – Top 2 Passers in the NFL Tangle Monday Night
November 20, 2010
Two very good offensive football teams meet this week and Monday Night Football Odds are that there will be a lot of scoring. The Denver Broncos, fresh off an offensive explosion last week against division foes Kansa City travel to San Diego to take a rested, motivated Chargers group that may actually get some good news on the injury front!
DENVER BRONCOS (3-6) vs. SAN DIEGO CHARGERS (4-5) Monday, November 22, 8:30 PM ET Qualcomm Stadium, San Diego, California
Broadcast: ESPN
Monday Night Football Odds:
Denver: +10 (-110)
San Diego: -10 (-110)
Moneyline: Denver +400: San Diego -500
Total: 50 ½ points
Is it me, or does it seem like the Broncos deserve better than a 3-6 record? After all, they do have the best passer in the game and arguably the hottest receiver on the planet. Monday Night Football Odds are that Kyle Orton and Brandon Lloyd have made a few Fantasy owners very happy this season – too bad their strong play hasn’t translated to wins!

The Denver offense has been one dimensional all season long. It’s a good thing for the 2nd ranked passing game (296.56 yards per game), because the league’s worst running game (76.78 yards per game) has brought nothing to the table for the Broncos. We know Kyle Orton will get his numbers – the question is whether or not Knowshon Moreno can build off his best game of the season (106 yards last week) and actually help the offense.
Denver’s defense is bad, even against middle of the road offenses. Against the Chargers they are going to have to take their game to a completely different level. At present, the Broncos have the 29th ranked scoring defense (giving up 29 points per game), the NFL’s 19th ranked pass defense and the league’s 30th ranked run defense (143.11 yards per game).
It’s San Diego’s time to shine; this team has compiled an amazing 32-5 record after October in the last five years! Monday Night Football Odds are that they will be in peak form in Week 11, especially since Malcolm Floyd and Legadu Naanee may return to the lineup. They are a rested bunch and despite poor early season play are just one game out of first place in their division.
Philip Rivers is the MVP of the league so far. He has passed for an incredible 312 yards per game this season despite injuries to almost all of his pass catchers. Like Denver, the Chargers have relied solely on the #1 ranked passing game – the running game has been underwhelming, ranking 16th in the NFL with an average of just 107.78 yards per game.
Defensively, the Chargers have exceeded expectations and own the league’s 3rd ranked passing defense (185.22 yards per game) and the 4th ranked rushing D (89.44 yards per game). So what’s the problem in San Diego? Special Teams! It is an aspect that was certainly an area of concentration during their bye week.
Monday Night Football Odds Outlook:
The Denver Broncos are 1-4 SU and ATS in their last five games and are just 1-5 SU and 2-4 ATS in their last six road games. The Broncos are 2-6 SU and 1-6-1 ATS in their last eight versus the Chargers. Denver is 2-4 SU and 2-3-1 ATS in their last six trips to San Diego.
The San Diego Chargers are 16-6 SU overall, 8-2 SU in their last 10 games at home and 6-2 SU in their last eight meetings with Denver.
It is difficult to predict which San Diego team will show up on Monday night but their recent two game win streak and their home record suggests that the Chargers will bring their “A Game”. Expect the Broncos to be down early and surprisingly, that plays right into their hands. Kyle Orton will have to throw a ton and we’ve all seen that he is more than capable of that. San Diego should win but Orton and Lloyd will do their best to at least keep this game fairly close. 10 points is a little rich for me.
Monday Night Football Odds Pick: Denver Broncos +10
