Monday Night Football Betting Preview – Bears-Vikings To Play At TCF Stadium

December 21, 2010

No team has had more ominous signs this year that they’re destined for failure than the Minnesota Vikings, who are stacked up against the Chicago Bears tonight in Monday Night Football betting. Brad Childress was fired, Brett Favre is hurt, Tavaris Jackson can’t play (and isn’t very good) and their stadium has collapsed in on itself. With eight games lost already, their playoff chances are already dead in the water. And now they have a third string quarterback playing in the worst conditions possible.

Let’s get the facts about Joe Webb out of the way. If you’re going to leverage a bet on the Vikings in Monday Night Football betting, you’ll be relying on a guy who was born in raised in the warm climate of Alabama. Webb’s experience in the snow is questionable. A sixth round pick in this year’s draft, we haven’t seen much of Webb. He only played in partial minutes against the Giants last week and completed 2-of-5 completions for just 8-yards.

Webb will also be playing against one of the best defenses in the league from a speed standpoint. The secondary of the Bears is vulnerable, with Tillman being their only notable player, but the front-seven of Chicago is absolutely fierce, and blitzing Webb in to bad decisions is certainly a bankable option. You also can’t question just how impossible playing at TCF Stadium in this type of climate is going to affect Webb and the Vikings as a whole.

Chicago Bears (9-4) vs. Minnesota Vikings (5-8)

Monday, December 20th — TCF Bank Stadium — 8:30pm EST

Monday Night Football Betting Line: Chicago -8.0 (33.5)

The winter has been a vindictive mistress to the Vikings this season and things will only get worse in Monday Night Football betting. Extreme temperatures, harsh winds and an estimated 5-inches of snow fall are going to make this an impossible venue to produce in.

Those conditions might hamper the Bears as much as the Vikings offensively. Chicago came out extremely flat against the Patriots last weekend, and have only produced 21.0 points per game in their last 5 outings. Cutler has put his worries past him for the most part and won’t be allowed to put his team in jeopardy by airing it out on Monday. The Bears and Vikings will both play this game tight to the chest.

The Bears are also 5-10-1 ATS in their last 16 road games, although they’re also 5-1 SU in their past 6 games overall and 6-1 SU in their last 7 games on the road. Their 27-13 drubbing of Minnesota at Soldier Field is a good representation of how well they’ll fare in this matchup against the same team with a third stringer at quarterback.

All the angles are pointing towards the Bears in this one. They’re a cold weather team that is more used to these conditions than the usually dome playing Vikings. On top of that Minnesota I just 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games and have lost any semblance of home field advantage. With Webb at quarterback, you simply can’t bank on them in Monday Night Football betting.

Furious Monday Night Football Betting Pick – Chicago -8.0 (UNDER)
