The Patriots are probably the best team in the NFL, but they need to prove it against one of the two teams that has beaten them this season, the Jets. The NFL betting enthusiastic should remember that last season the Pats beat the Jets 31-14 as quarterback Tom Brady threw for 310 yards, the only team in 2009 that recorded 300+ passing yards against the Jets.
However, if anything, the Jets defense is better. In fact, the New York defense was so good last season that they held 11 of 16 quarterbacks to a passer rating less than 70 and they have Antonio Cromartie now. Also, consider that Brady has a passer rating of 69.5 when the secondary throws blitzes at him, the seventh worse in the NFL.
Expect the Jets to give Brady some problems disguising the coverage and throwing blitzes from every angle. "I watched that game (Thursday)," Ryan said. "Obviously, they’re playing great. They’re making big plays on defense, but their offense, that’s where you start with. They seemed at times, almost looked like they were unstoppable. I’m pretty confident where our team is right now. We’ve got the exact same record."
On the other hand, the Jets will try to run the ball with Ladainian Tomlinson to give Mark Sanchez short-yard situations in order to take advantage of a Patriots defense that relies on big play.
If you are betting on football this Monday, keep in mind that the Pats have the best turnover differential with +11, recording 20 takeaways on the season and only giving it away nine times. In fact, Tom Brady hasn’t thrown a single interception in the last six games vs. 13 touchdowns, as he is playing out of his mind.
The betting trends say the NY Jets are 7-0 ATS as road underdog of 7 pts or less, 6-2 ATS against conference opponents, 2-0 ATS as an underdog and 4-1 ATS in road games. The Patriots are 6-8 ATS versus division opponents and 3-2 ATS as a favorite of 3.5 to 9.5 points.
Simmons’ pick: Take the Jets with the points.
