Monday Night Football – D-Mac, Looks To Get Shanahan, Former Franchise Off His Back

November 14, 2010

Yo, BetOnline NFL betting enthusiasts, forget about Donovan McNabb’s aching hamstrings … the embattled quarterback for the Washington Redskins probably wants to get head coach Mike Shanahan – and his former franchise – off of his aching backing when the Skins host the Philadelphia Eagles in a Monday Night Football matchup that takes place live from FedExField at 8:30 PM ET.

Check out these key head-to-head trends.

  • Under is 5-2-2 in the last 9 meetings in Washington.
  • Eagles are 10-4-1 ATS in their last 15 meetings in Washington.
  • Under is 9-4-1 in the last 14 meetings.
  • Eagles are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 meetings.
  • Underdog is 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 meetings.
  • Road team is 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 meetings.

Philadelphia (5-3 SU, 3-5 ATS, 5-3 O/U)

Philadelphia picked up a surprising 26-24 win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 9 but failed to cash in against the spread as a 3.5-point home favorite to fall to 0-2 ATS over the last two games and 2-3 ATS over its last five heading into this Monday Night Football matchup against their NFC East division rivals.

The Birds got another fantastic performance from quarterback Michael Vick as he threw for one score and rushed for another without a turnover. All-Pro cornerback Asante Samuel picked off Peyton Manning twice in the win.

Washington (4-4 SU, 4-3-1 ATS, 4-4 O/U)

Washington had a bye in Week 9 but lost a heartbreaker to the Detroit Lions two weeks ago in a contest in which head coach Mike Shanahan pulled McNabb for the team’s final possession with Washington looking to tie the score.

Shanahan came up with multiple excuses for his boneheaded move, which immediately backfired when backup quarterback Rex Grossman fumbled on the first play after getting nailed by Lions defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh on his very first snap.

The Skins failed to cash in against the odds as a 2.5-point road underdog and have gone 1-1-1 ATS over its last three games heading into this Monday Night Football divisional showdown.

Prediction: The Redskins managed to beat Philly 17-12 in Week 4, but may not have been so lucky had Vick not gotten hurt early on.

Now, Philadelphia comes into this matchup looking like the clearly better team, hence the Monday Night Football spread featuring them as a road favorite.

While I’d like to see McNabb beat his former team for the second time this season while silencing his critics in a big way, I just don’t see that happening in this contest as Philly gets the win to move to 4-1 SU in its last five games.

It’s become pretty damned apparent that Mike Vick is no longer the guy that runs too soon, doesn’t study the game and can’t complete passes from inside the pocket.

While he’s still plenty quick with his feet, Vick is now a much more cerebral signal-caller and Philly has been far better than I expected this season because of his MVP-caliber efforts.

I like the Birds to win this contest straight up and cash in against the Monday Night Football betting line by the slimmest of margins.
