Monday Morning Quarterback – Stop Riding The Colts

November 30, 2010

Well you can’t deny that this was a pretty entertaining NFL betting weekend, especially for all you Colts fans that are feeling the strike of the Super Bowl hangover.

I’m not a Peyton Manning guy, but I have a great respect for him although I don’t consider him to be the best in the business, especially because of the poor decision making he has shown over the past two weeks.

This is not new. Remember at the beginning of his career when he made bad throws on big games, and he just keeps doing it. He has thrown seven interceptions in the last two weeks, including four last night in the 36-14 loss against his nemesis, the San Diego Chargers.

I’m done betting on the NFL when Manning is in a big game. I know he delivers in the regular season, but not so much when the game is on the line. Also, they are so injured that I think Manning doesn’t even know who he is throwing to anymore.

On the other hand, I can’t look away from the AFC betting East, which has the two best teams in the NFL, the Jets and the Pats. I don’t care if the Jets are not winning big time, they keep winning in different ways. The thing you have to realize is that they are built to win in the playoffs, with a great hard-hitting defense, a pretty running team, and a quarterback that is learning how to avoid mistakes.

The Pats have something unique, as right now Tom Brady knows he has to drive this team with five-yard passes to win, but he also needs to avoid mistakes and he is doing both. The other thing that everybody keeps saying is that the New England defense breaks and can’t stop anybody.

That might be right, but what you need to realize is that they also make the big plays, the big interceptions, and the turnovers. Despite that you can’t count on that to win, last year the Saints won the Super Bowl with that same amount of variations, so yeah, it can be done.

Favorite teams that cover the spread: Patriots, Jets, Falcons, Texans and Ravens.

Underdogs that covered: Cowboys, Bills, Jaguars, Vikings, Dolphins, Rams and Chargers.
